Hello,

I applied for a Thailand tourist visa a few days back and I got it rejected today without any reason. I don't understand why they'd do that. I submitted the right documents and I had the specific money in my bank account as needed. Any idea what could be done? Can anyone please help? Can I reapply within the next few days?

Please help.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported their Thailand tourist visa application was rejected without a clear reason, despite submitting the required documents. Community members provided insights, suggesting the embassy may not always disclose reasons for rejections. They recommended checking all submitted documentation thoroughly, including proof of accommodation and sufficient funds in the bank account. It was noted that applicants may need to demonstrate strong ties to their home country to substantiate their return intentions. Additionally, some suggested that the user might need to reapply from outside Thailand and that visa applications can be scrutinized more rigorously for certain nationalities. There were discussions around financial requirements and additional documentation that might help improve chances for a future application.

You have to be a HNWI,to enter Thailand.

Unfortunately, anywhere in the world (especially the first world countries), if you come from a third or developing country, they will most of the time think you cannot afford tourism visits, worst they suspect you might find jobs/migrate. So visas are quite straight forward, prove (to the best of what you have) that:

1. You are a legitimate tourist. Have enough money for whole duration. Have confirmed accommodation, flights, insurance, tours, etc. Don’t even try staying with a friend.

2. You have a very strong reason you are going back to your home country (employment, business, properties, permanent home, etc)

If you happen to come from first world countries, even if you end up as BEG-PACKER in Asia - like many of them, even in the financial city like Hong Kong, you will still be welcomed with an open arms at the airport, no visa needed - just by looking at skin colour or the passport they carry.

That’s the hard truth, and it’s always painful.

I carry a shitty passport but it didn’t stop me from being able to visit more than 50 countries and over 120 destinations, including places most experienced travellers has probably never been to. I have many experiences with visas and immigrations (good and bad). Can’t even write all of them in one comment. If the OP will be happy with my suggestions or listen to my visa stories, I might be able to help her hit her first visa.

Your first travel out of your home country is always the most difficult. Once you have traveled more, and they see your passport pages filled with stamps, they will somehow loosen up. But then again, it still depends where you are heading.

My understanding is that you have to be outside of Thailand to apply for a new tourist visa..

Could also be your proof of insurance. They want it on just one page. Difficult to get just one page from insurance company. My policy is 55 pages long.

If you only have 800-1000 in bank. They’re wondering how are you going to support yourself. Get more money in bank account and try again.

No email. I just got my passport back with a void stamp!

They don’t have to give you a reason of rejection. It’s a privilege to enter the country. Not a right. Try entering Laos then try entering Thailand by land. If that’s possible.
Estefan **********
@Philip *********
that's just terrible advice. They absolutely should offer a reason. How else do you have transparency and fairness.

Countries make it too hard to travel. Enough of this mindset of suck it up buttercup. Make your country better. (This heavily applies to the United States, but is applicable everywhere)
Alan *******
@Estefan *********
Compared to a lot of countries, Thailand makes it quite easy to travel.

Yes, you’ll sometimes have the bad luck of dealing with an official who is incompetent or overly apathetic but that’s the case in any country and any organization.

It’s a lot more likely when dealing with government agencies anywhere as government generally under pays, over works and doesn’t exactly attract enthusiastic, top tier talent.

But countries need proper checks in place when dealing with tourists and migrants.

Yes they should be clear with their policies and reasons for rejection but again, don’t assume that because one person did a bad job in this one case that it means the whole system needs an overhaul.

I’ve had visa applications rejected in the past and was told exactly why and what was needed so it’s not like this one person’s case is what happens to everyone.

Also, I’m curious, why does “make your country better”, in your opinion, most heavily apply to the US?

Are you implying that the US is the most difficult country to travel to? Because that’s just not true. It is one of the most difficult to travel to legally (illegally is a totally different matter) but go look at lists of hardest countries to get a visa for and see how many don’t even list the US as being in the top 10.
Estefan **********
@Alan ******
it's actually the opposite. The US citizens are shouting, "if you don't like it, then leave" instead of addressing and fixing issues.

Which is the opposite to Philips "If you don't like it, don't come"
Philip **********
@Estefan *********
I NEVER SAID THAT! If you don’t like it don’t come. I said, It’s a privilege to enter a country. Not a right. You people think you are so entitled to come here. You’re not. Follow the rules.
Estefan **********
@Philip *********
don't follow rules just because they are rules. Follow rules because they are fair and benefit society
Estefan **********
@Philip *********
you didn't but it's equivalent in meaning. You even just said now. "Don't come if you don't like it". Its a terrible attitude and stops productive change which is what every country needs.

Also already here. And I had issues with visas to and not telling me what I needed. I had to double back and speak to another person just to find out what was wrong cause the first person wouldn't tell me. Rules should be clear that you can give a reason for denial of service, no matter where you go
Alan *******
@Estefan *********
What’s actually the opposite of what?

Who exactly is shouting that and what does leaving the US have to do with how easy it is to travel there? What issues aren’t they fixing exactly?

And what does the Philippines have to do with any of this?

Your reply seems really confused.
Estefan **********
I'm ok with checks and balances and controlling traffic in an out. But it should be fair, consistent, transparent.
Estefan **********
@Alan ******
the issue isn't how easy it is to travel here. The issue is being complacent and not fixing problems.

Just because it's better doesn't mean it doesn't need fixing
Estefan **********
In this regard, even though both are opposites, (leave the country if you don't like it) (it easier than other places to get in) they stem from the same problem.

Reluctance to improve
Estefan **********
@Alan ******
it's not that I'm confused. It's that you can't read cause I said US citizens are shouting. As in united States citizens

Philip is the name of the guys who made the original comment. See above Philip Houghton.

@Estefan *********
Like I said. It’s a privilege not a right. You cannot demand entry into another country.

Well the embassy is in its right to seek additional documentation or reject. They don’t also have obligation to spit out the reason why they did so. An agent who deals applications regularly in the same embassy might give possible points that can be addressed to get a visa. I understand you got a void visa?

If so, you can go back to the checklist and see did you attach all the mandatory documents in order? If so, okay great. If not, check that did you submit hotel booking for the entire duration of stay planned, or not. If you were to stay with a foreigner did you attach his credentials (work permit, address etc) or if with Thai friend ( their address proof, Thai ID, invitation letter). Did you have a travel history to Thailand before of repeated tourist visas one after another?

Did you submit any of the additional documents ( listed in checklist) which are not mandatory but which makes embassy believe that you have reasons enough to go back to your home country. Eg can be proof of your employment, salary slips, letter from employer proving your current employment, income tax paid in last years, if government employee, No objection certificate from your current office.

There can be just n number of reasons and only a thorough recheck of your application can help.

It’s a hit or miss. I understand it’s a pain to get rejected visa after paying fee, application work and all. You can try again with more diligent paperwork.

@Naveen *****
it is why I'm not going . Why should you have to pay for hotel flight and covid cert insurance all upfront to be treated like that disgusting
Vikorn ***********
Matthew Thompson but you are still lingering in this Thailand Visa page and took a second of your time replying to something unhelpful even if you decided that "you are not coming"...

Yes, my agent handled the matter for me and he said everything looks fine as he did for others as well this year and mine was the first one to get rejected (this year). I attached the said documents (my friend lives there) and this is my first time traveling outside of India. I don't think I gave enough reasons to come back home as I left my job last year and I wanted to travel for some months before I start working again so I didn't attach any documents(which I don't have because I don't work now)

Any idea what could be done regarding this?

Thank you so much for replying patiently.

@Khristie ********
You have to give them some documents that prove you are only going for tourism, not to work illegally and will be coming back to your own country like job/business papers, tax papers or a heavy bank balance etc which you didn't give .

If you are really interested only in travelling, you have the option of getting a visa on arrival for 15 days which is available for Indian citizens.

Have you booked flight tickets yet ?
Naveen ******
@Khristie ********
I see. Okay a few points I can suggest based on your reply is that this time if your friend is a foreigner (non-Thai), attach his/her visa, work permit, proof of residence, rent agreement, proof of employment, invitation letter. If Thai, it should have Thai ID number, invitation letter, contact number and address, house address book ( Thais know what that is).

If you don’t have a job presently, you may have the last three payslips before resigning, experience letter which shows your resignation and last working day, ITR ( income tax refund) of last two three years as available.

INR 50k is minimum bank balance requirement, which shouldn’t be just a one off deposit and then there is no transaction history of last two three months. Try to show a good bank statement which has frequent deposits, withdrawals etc to show you have enough going on in your home country to just go as a tourist and not as someone who will misuse a tourist visa to search, gain employment there.

You can attach a hand written self declaration writing your intent to travel, and self declare that even though you don’t have employment, your purpose is to merely use this hiatus as travel holiday to experience Thailand and nothing more, nothing less.

To save some money, you can apply yourself rather than engaging agents.

Also your tourist visa application should be for days more than days allowed by visa on arrival. This means your hotel stay, flight tickets should have gap of more than 15 but less than 60 days.

Good luck!

. You may have answered your own question. No job and future income and only $800-1000 in your bank. That won't get you very far travelling overseas.
