Hello, I am sure everyone is sick of answering DTV questions but I’m applying and it’s asking me for my flight number, why would I book a flight before knowing how long I can stay in Thailand? Any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the Thailand DTV (Digital Tourist Visa), you are required to provide a flight number, despite some concerns about booking a flight before knowing your stay duration. This requirement exists because many Thai embassies and consulates need to verify your intended travel details during the application process. While it is not mandatory to book a flight at this stage, applicants have reported success by entering a random or proposed flight number, as the system does not always seek additional proof of a booked flight. However, it is recommended to be cautious and consider booking a refundable flight ticket just in case it is needed later.

They asked for a flight number. Not a flight TICKET.

The flightnumber does not refer to a specific day, only to a specific route.

I put in a random flight number for mine and haven’t booked a flight yet. It was accepted

They used to actually ask for proof of a booked flight by means of an uploaded ticket. Now, with the DTV, there is no such upload requested anymore in the eVisa system. You still have to fill in a flight number in the form, though. I guess they just re-used the same web form. You could try and just submit a flight number of a flight you aim at taking, imho. Good chance they won’t ask for additional proof. Some consulates might however still request such proof - I guess to ensure that one is actually applying with the “right” consulate in the country one is flying to Thailand from.

I really like this development. I always considered requiring a booked flight for a visa of a similar level of sense as requiring having a car to be able to take driving lessons. Very unnecessary, serves no purpose, and above all, the wrong order of things.

Else, just pick a land border alternatively. It won’t matter what way or border you enter Thailand in the end once you have the visa.

Most Thai embassies require your plane ticket as part of your visa application.

You can try looking up a flight and taking a screenshot and submitting it as your proposed flight. If the embassy doesn't like it, they will email you.
