Hi all, I am coming to Thailand and going for the STV visa. Completed most of the application online, however it's asking for evidence of accommodation booking and proof of payment for the 90 days. I assume it's required as they are asking for it, however, I wasn't planning on staying in the same place, and even if I did, normally you pay when you get to the accommodation, not through booking.com for example - anyone have any info on this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The STV visa for Thailand requires proof of fully paid accommodation for the entire stay. This can complicate plans if you intend to switch accommodations frequently during your visit. Some users suggest providing a printout of a booked accommodation (like an Airbnb) and then canceling it, but note that the STV visa has limited extension options and may not be ideal for those looking for flexibility in travel.
I had an STV last year. I just printed out the Airbnb receipt for the length of the trip then cancelled it. Worked fine. Even start of last year this visa was getting so much hate. I found it was great and they extended it at Krabi immi in 5 minutes. Was super convenient, though as others have said there is no extension. After 3 months.
The STV visa is a dead duck option. Unless they extend the lifetime of it youâd be much better off on a different visa type.
Part of the requirements for entering on the STV is fully paid up accommodation for the entire period and insurance to boot. Any extension would require the same. As youâd be entering after July 1st youâre limited to one extension I believe (edit Iâm not even sure you could get one). Do yourself a favour and investigate other visa entry options.
OK, thank you Stuart. I will do that, really helpful to know. To be honest I took out the required travel insurance for the STV but that's fine, at least I am covered!
always best to have insurance. The STV worked for some people but mainly not âtouristsâ who would typically travel from place to place at will and pay for accommodation as they needed. If you need more than 90 days (60+30) that the standard tourist visa offers then there are ways of extending in country, or just doing a border bounce to a neighbouring country and re-entering.
