What should I put for the issuing authority when my DTV was rejected due to incorrect information?

DTV rejected due to “Applicant provides incorrect information (country/territory issuing travel document) in the visa application.”

For reference, it’s a NZ passport issued in sydney, Australia.

The label on passport for issuing authority says DIA SYD which is what I put in the application.

I have no idea what should go in there.

Any ideas anyone?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reported that their DTV was rejected because of incorrect issuing authority information in their application. They provided a New Zealand passport issued in Sydney, Australia, and noted that the passport label shows 'DIA SYD.' Other commenters shared their experiences with similar issues, suggesting that using the full name rather than abbreviations might help. They also discussed potential reasons for the rejection, such as system errors, and advised contacting the embassy for clarification.

Just spent 30 minutes wrestling with official Thai visa website. Significantly poor website. Got nowhere.

It’s likely to be a system generated rejection, probably not even seen by a human, so maybe use system logic and state New Zealand - I had a similar issue with an Evisa rejection from Uk where system misread scan of my passport and replaced a D in my name with an O and I never spotted it and it was not possible to change - I resubmitted with a new scan and approved . Expensive mistake

I did notice that the system scan misspelled my name as MATHEW when I first put it in….

I changed that obviously and now that you mention it, I’m thinking is maybe switched an I for a 1 or something like that,,

And yup, expensive mistake..

Isn't the fee for a NZ passport holder 2000nzd ? Or it that only if they apply in NZ ?

You may need to try to get an appointment at the embassy and get a face to face meeting and explanation of the problem and an opportunity to correct whatever it is they think the problem is.

embassies that have switched to e-visa no longer allow foreigners onto the property. All matters are now handled phone. Only Thai citizens making use of consular services are allowed on the property.

yeah, I’m thinking that might have been a better option all along

Which Thai Embassy/Consulate did you apply? Consulate in Sydney, Embassy in Canberra, or somewhere else?

consulate in sydney

My docs are pending and I put ‘HMPO’ as that’s what’s on my passport. I got it in Bangkok via the UK passport office.

If it's a NZ passport then the issuing country is NZ. Which is good news since (I hope) it means you can just fix that and get your visa.

Interesting to see it's issued by "Department of Internal Affairs" considering it's rather "external" by nature.

@Kevin ******
What’s strange about it? He’s a NZ citizen, DIA handle citizenship and passport matters in NZ.
Brandon ************
@Ron *****
why would a Thai employee have any idea what DIA means?

forgot to mention the application was rejected without the option to change anything..

So I have to pay $600 again and re-submit.

I think they also warn on the site for online application to check very well all passport details are 100 percent correct, because there is no possibilty to change anything regarding this info.

in the online application, the very first field asks “country/territory issuing travel document” in this field I entered “New Zealand” .

Later on the application is asks “place of issue” which is where I entered DIA SYD which is “department of internal affairs sydney”.

There’s some ambiguity in there I guess which caused an issue.

why not contact them for guidance. Where are you now when you did application?

I’ve just sent them an email and will try to call them when they open.

I’m basically halfway inbetween sydney and Canberra.

Matt...I've just checked my passport issued last year, it has the Issuing Authority as DIA NZ. I know on my previous passports it had Place of Issue (being Wellington) which is no longer included. Even if you apply for the passport in Sydney surely DIA NZ is still the Issuing Authority. Doesn't make sense and could be the reason it's confused them.

I have dual citizenship Aussie and kiwi.

I’m thinking maybe that part muddied the water a bit also?

It does ask citizenship, and any others which I entered in the online form..

dunno,, all a bit perplexing at this point

yeah, that’s what I thought. Hopefully it’s just a clerical error somewhere along the lines.
Ricky ********
Maybe write in full not abbreviate it ?
Ivan ************
@Ricky *******
my first thought would be to match exactly what's on the passport, as I have had rejections before for tiny modifications like removing a space. He wrote DIA SYD because that's what it says in that field on his passport, makes perfect sense to me. You could write it out in full and then be rejected because it's not what's written on the passport. Hard to know which way it's going to go.

my application is pending with the LA consulate. I renewed my passport in Bangkok and put ‘HMPO’ on my application as that’s what’s on my passport.

Not sure what to do now.
Elías ********
@Chris ****
Well, there's nothing to do, as an already sent application can't be modified or canceled by the user. Just waiting.
Chris *****
@Elías *******
Hopefully all good. The vast majority of UK passports have HMPO. It’ll be familiar enough to them.

Uhh. When I applied for a tourism visa a few weeks ago, I wrote issuing authority (was it issuing country?) Costa Rica. Place of Issue: Seoul, as it is written on the passport, and it was approved. Now I applied a few days ago to the DTV writing that section in the same way. Was the problem you didn't write a full city name? Not that you made what you wrote yourself, as it was written as it's on the passport. My DTV is still on "Processing. Pending document check."

not sure, I’m going to try and call the embassy today and see what’s what.

Given the wording of the rejection

“Applicant provides incorrect information (country/territory issuing travel document) in the visa application.”

I’m thinking now I should have just put New Zealand in there but then technically that wouldn’t be correct so it could get rejected also..

No idea really.
Lynnette *******
@Matt ********
surely "the country" who gave you a passport is NZ?

why would a Thai person be expected to know what that acronym means? If you're filling out an official document you don't leave room for confusion. You write everything out in full.

@Brandon ***********
I entered the field exactly as it’s printed in the passport i.e DIA SYD

I did this on purpose so it would match exactly.

For the record, I would 100% expect an embassy employee who is processing applications all day long to understand that passports can be issued in embassies globally and the variations of “place of issue” could be different to the issuing authority.
Lynnette *******
@Matt ********
ah, I see. Maybe you should have written Sydney

yeah,, shame that such a small technicality resulted in an outright rejection..

I just re-applied and paid another $600… oh well..

oh that's really bad. I hope that's going to be successful. Should you have contacted them? Or not possible?
