DTV Approval - Canberra, Australia.

I am a New Zealand resident and passport holder but applied from Australia as we are travelling here atm (lucky timing considering the insane pricing at the NZ embassy).

I applied for the DTV for myself under the workation banner, with my husband and kids as dependents.

I submitted my application on August 27th and was asked for further information on August 30th.

The further info required was:

Other request documents: Remote Working Details Document (To clarify your remote working details)

Other request documents: Proof of Your Address in Australia

For the Remote Working Details Document, I put together a PDF showing how my business operates, all written in the third person and describing how it makes money and is run remotely.

I added screenshots of my business website and company registration from New Zealand.

For proof of address, I added the invoice for the place we were staying at the time from Booking dot com. Note that this was not my permanent place of abode.

My visa was granted on 11 September.

I then applied for my husband and kids on the 12th of September.

Again, they requested further docs (but only for one of my kids) on the 19th of September.

Other request documents: Proof of Your Visa Status/VEVO in Australia

I rang Home Affairs/Immigration to get a VEVO for my child but was informed that they don't do them for kids, so I submitted our original Qantas ticket showing entry for all of us into Australia, with a note on the pdf stating, "VEVO not available for child as per Home Affairs Australia, however, this flight confirmation shows our flight entering Australia - including (child name)."

Later that same day (19th September), my husband and eldest child were approved, and my youngest was approved on the 22nd.

I showed a screenshot of our managed fund in New Zealand for financials. I did not want to withdraw from the fund to show the funds in our bank account, but I would've if they insisted.

Luckily, they didn't. I used the same screenshot for all four of us.

I didn't have a flight booked, and they didn't ask, but I did book the flight I stated in the application, just not til after approval.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A New Zealand resident successfully shared their experience applying for a DTV visa from Australia for their family. They submitted their application under the workation category on August 27, 2023, and provided detailed remote working documents and proof of temporary residency in Australia. Further document requests included proof of address and visa status for their children, which they navigated successfully. Their visa was granted on September 11, and the family members were subsequently approved by late September, highlighting the importance of preparing comprehensive documentation.

Followed this post by Emma as a guide, am also a Kiwi but been in Oz for about 6 months so had a bank statement and license for proof of address, attached the VEVO to the proof of address section using pdf merger. Uploaded my NZ company rego doc as well as my letter to work remotely. Had no further document requests, submitted 10pm Monday, had it approved by 10am Friday. Was super fast but I had absolutely everything attached and double checked it all before sending. Very easy. Glad I didn't follow other advice from sites saying you have to do it inNZ if you are an NZ company as it would have cost 2K.

congratulations! Can't believe how much the NZ Thai Embassy are charging.

Smart choice to do it from Australia. Would have been really expensive via NZ. Enjoy Thailand.
