DTV for a British passport holder whilst currently in Thailand.

Apparently a short trip to Laos is all that is needed. However, others are now saying it must be applied for whilst in Europe.

Can anyone please advise?

I’ll be in NYC next month too and emailed the consulate and awaiting a reply. Can I apply there?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the application process for a Thai DTV visa for British passport holders currently in Thailand. Some users suggest that a short trip to Laos is sufficient for the application, while others indicate it might need to be done from Europe. Participants share experiences with Thai consulates differing in their procedures, including the distinction between those using the eVisa system and traditional paper sticker visas. There's a consensus that applying for the DTV from abroad is necessary, but exact procedures can vary by location.

You have to apply from abroad, like with any other visa, I can't see why applying from Europe would be any different than applying from Laos, especially when you can apply online.

It seems to be. It randomly has Northern Irish as option.

Still cute the government lets primary school kids build out their websites. The Vientiane on is a joke. In creating an account the submit button is cropped off and can’t be found.

Check the Embassy/Consulate website where you want to apply to see if it is available to you as a tourist

You can also try, by way of a ‘test’ application on the official site. There is a drop-down of countries which should be all those allowed.

You may have to play around - trial by error - to see which lets you progress.

You can either save that one OR delete it, I believe.

I only presume that this way works… if it’s the similar embassy protocol & procedure as it is if applying for a 60-day METV from another country.

I can’t swear by this but I think it’s a good indication. I wouldn’t have thought it’s limited to Laos. I’ve applied from South Korea before (for the 60-day…)… and wanted to know if I could before I went there, from Thailand…

So… same principal essentially.

Remember that fee’s ( DTV 10.000 Baht) for visa’s are not returned in case of the application is dismissed.

So trial and error can be a costly affair.

Better to wait a couple of weeks, and see how the implementation will turn out.

Yes. Chris / Henrik, I didn’t mean go ahead right until the end and PAY. Just play around to see which countries come up & see what is allowed etc.

It’s the only way to know… unless you want to call every country’s embassy in the world.

This is just my opinion anyway - good luck with whatever you do. I don’t drink these days - 5 years dry & I feel amazing!

There is two sets of Thai consulates. Those already participating in the Thai eVisa system. For those you need to prove that you have residence within their jurisdiction. Then there is consulates in some countries that still do paper sticker visa with a personal appearance. The latter MIGHT issue you a DTV even as a non-resident. That varies from consulate to consulate and also depends on what visa you seek. For the DTV it isn’t sure / confirmed yet which (if any) consulates will do.

Thank you mate. While it’s great, they do need to get their ducks in a row.

Yeah. They will eventually muddle their way through. Give them a few more days. The DTV is only a few days old.
