Can I extend my visa exemption in Thailand or do I need to do a border run?

Hello United States passport here.

I entered Thailand on a 30 day visa exemption and then got a 30 day extension on that. Do I have an option to extend this again or is border run my only option? If I go to Laos for a few weeks or month I'll get another 30 day exemption no problem yes?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A U.S. passport holder entering Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption can extend the stay once for another 30 days but cannot obtain a second extension in sequence. The options are to do a border run to neighboring countries like Laos to obtain another 30-day visa exemption or apply for a 60-day tourist visa in Laos, which can be further extended for an additional 30 days.

As of RIGHT NOW, your options are:

a. Border bounce by land at most borders. You can get two 30 day visa exempt by land, extendable by another 30 days at your local immigration office for 1,900 THB

b. buy a tourist visa. I believe you should be able to get a tourist visa from Vientiane, which will be good for 60 days, extendable by another 30 at immigration for 1,900THB. ASSUMING this is your first time in Thailand and you want to stay a little bit longer.

If you want to hang out in Laos/ Malaysia/ Cambodia for a few months, you can do that, but there's no time period you have to stay out before another visa exempt stamp or visa will be issued. Getting another tourist visa is 1 business day in Laos and Malaysia, and two business days in Cambodia, if I remember correctly.

Probably, or you could apply for a 60 day tourist visa while you’re there, then extend that for 30

But yes you will have to depart the country you can’t get 2 30 day extensions in a row at immigration

You can go do an out/in border bounce if you want...
