Hi,I come into Samui on a tourist visa, get the 90 day ext at maenam, but I would like to know how to go about getting the next 30days? So It will then give me 120days in thailand. South africa thai immigration says, you have to go over the border, AND FLY BACK IN. Cant come in via car etc. Otherwise they only give you 15days? Because we wanted to go to Rayong with a friend for a few days, and drive back, as we went in. Thx

TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African traveler on a tourist visa in Thailand is seeking advice on extending their stay from a 90-day to a total of 120 days. They mention needing to exit the country to get an additional 30 days and are confused about the process of leaving by land versus air. Comments clarify that border runs can work but may have restrictions depending on the entry point and visa type.

Thankyou so much for all the replies. I arrive in May, so will have to start planning that trip over the border.

You get 60 day visa then extend for 30 days, any longer you need to leave the country

Rayong is on 1 side of the country, and Mae am is on an island on the other side of the country?
Ashley ********
If you drive from Surat Thani to Rayong for sure you can drive, as you don’t exit the country, I don’t think you have explained your situation

suggestion's for border runs for South African?

you must be confusing some things. A Single Entry tourist Visa gives you 60 days admitted stay and can be extended on any Immigration for 30 more days. There is no 90-Day tourist visa, or a 90-days extension fpr Tourists

i know, i have been coming to thailand for over 15yrs.I just "shortened"my story, hopefully someone understood what i was trying to ask. I apply for visa in SA,so get th 60days as i enter, then apply for th 90days there at th end of 60days. That I ALL KNOW,been doing for years. I want more info on the easiest, cheapest way to do for the NEXT 30 days, after the 90 days??

she got 60 days on entry plus 30 extension already.

Border runs for South Africans are not available in many Southern border entries.

When done it will give you 30 days entry.

With a South African passport you can leave Thailand and come back using land borders twice a calendar year and get a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry.
