Hey guys I’m after some advice . My current visa runs out early March and I was planning on getting the covid extension closer to the expiry date as It’s still very difficult to get home to Australia.

I’ve read online that the covid extension expires end of this month and as far as I’m aware if I was to go in and get the covid extension it is effective as of the stamp on the day.

So basically I’m torn on what to do seeing as I have around 6 weeks left on current visa to burn that for an extra 2-3 weeks on the covid visa when I still doubt I’ll be able to get into Australia.

My current visa is non O for raising my half Thai son that I’m under the impression I could only do once for 60 days .

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on their visa situation as their current non-O visa will expire in early March. They are considering applying for a COVID extension but are uncertain if it will be possible to get an additional two to three weeks due to the impending expiration of this extension by the end of the month. The discussion reveals that the user previously received a 60-day family stay based on having a half-Thai child, and they might not be eligible for this extension again without leaving the country. There are additional considerations about extending the visa based on financial requirements versus parental rights for the child.

Whether or not the 60 day covid extension is from the day you apply for it vs being added onto your existing stamp is completely up to the immigration office and even the officer you get. There were several people posting their 60 day stamps being added onto the existing one from Chiang Mai immigration. I went the next day and got the 15 day under consideration from the day I applied. I'm not positive what I will get when I go back, but the officer I had said I would simply get the 45 days added onto that new stamp. If that is the case I will only get 40 days beyond what my previous stamp was.

> have a Thai daughter

Were you married to the mother of the Thai child, OR custody granted by courts?

First off before we steer the O/P down the "get a year extension" path, we need to know a few things. The O/P said he got the 90 day Non-O based on having half thai children. That usually means they aren't married to the child's mother (or they'd have gotten the visa based on marriage to a thai to begin with).

IF the O/P has a half thai child out of wedlock and has not gone thru family court OR went to the amphur to get parental rights granted they can't use the child to get a year extension :(

Just an aside. I'd love to know your thinking on this. Isn't it just as easy, if not easier, to get the extension based on a half-Thai child than a Thai wife? When I say easy, I don't really mean easy, but you know what I mean. :)

The only *MAJOR* difference between getting an extension of stay based on half-Thai child and an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai wife is the money seasoning requirements.

For the half-Thai children, there is NO seasoning requirements.

For a Thai wife, the money must be seasoned for two months.

What about interviews (interrogations?) with neigbours? Updated Kor Ror 2's? :)

>What about interviews (interrogations?)

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the immigration office. They may need pictures of them at their school, or in their school uniform, etc. Ask your local immigration office for the specific details.

>Kor Ror 2's

Kor Ror 2 is the updated marriage certificate. Minor children do not have marriage certificates, and are not needed.

I guess if you can get 400,000baht into bank account now and then apply for covid extension a day or 2 after, then you can then apply for 1 year
James ********
You can get extension for one year by meeting financial requirements.
Mike ******
I took the same route as you... Family 60 days (that ran out

)... Covid 60 days (that ran out too) and now on Marriage (1 year).

All cost Bht2K for each V so the most economical would have been Marriage V and saved me Bht4K.

>All cost Bht2K for each V

No, you didn't get a visa (I don't think). You should have gotten an extension of stay. Each extension of stay is 1,900 THB.

I am not planning on staying for a year and would prefer to avoid all the headaches by opening bank accounts etc . And hoping there is a simple option. But yes the family extension is an option
James ********
@Jay *******
if you already have used the 60 days family visit option...its only available once per entry.
James ********
@Jay *******
its your choice...you have a viable option...sadly you choose to not take it.

Watch the news for any changes...

Good luck.

I entered non -o visa and then received the 60 day family extension already . So I’m assuming I’m un able to get that extension again without leaving the country

Thanks mate I’m not experienced in this visa stuff hence the stuff up with the visa . Also was not planning on my stay being this long but as Australia has locked me out I don’t have a lot of options
Yumi *******
@Jay *******
I mean,just get visa first,you don't really need to stay as long as visa length,right?
Tod *********
@Jay *******
, you backed yourself into a corner burning that 60 day family extension right after you came in on the 90 day Non-O :(You should have went for the covid extension right off that Non-O 90 day entry.

Oh well, :/ be that as it may

There are not a lot of options for you. You can wait and see IF/WHEN they extend the covid extension program OR You meet the financial requirements and get a year extension. There's nothing in between right now.

Jay Conrad. Why don't you get the 12 month family extension? Isn't that a better option?
Tod *********
So you entered on a Non-O visa and you were stamped in for 90 days and THEN you bot a 60 day visit family that runs out in early March.

You're right, the ability to get 60 day covid extensions runs out next friday (Jan 29th) so that's NOT an option for you
