Hi, hope all is well. Looking for some advice please. Came into Thailand on a three month non immigrant o visa based on marriage. Which expires 02nd January 2024. I already have a flight booked from Bangkok to UK but on 1st February, as I thought immigration at ROI ET would let me extend 30 days. However, they say go to Laos and exit Thailand then come back in on a 30 day visa. But what actually are my options please? Then I am clear what I need to do to? Thanks very much

They were informed that they must exit Thailand to obtain a 30-day visa exemption. If your in Roi Et your not a Million miles from Mukdahan, where you can nip over the Bridge to Laos and get a 30 day visa exempt when you reenter, have a day out then you can extend for another 30 back in Roi Et

, as Anthony mentioned already, if you do a one-day border bounce on 2 Jan, you will be stamped in until 31 Jan. You stay out for a night, or apply for another extension if you don't want to be on overstay even for one day

Thanks very much Ellie, I appreciate. I think if I can't get 60 day extension based on Thai family (spouse). I will go up to Laos enter, stay one night and then return to Thailand. Then I will have the optimum amount of days to cover the flight return date if 1st Feb 2024 from BKK. Does that sound do able, if so that's it? Just drop me one more line if that is a feasible plan?

Regards Kenneth cheers

, you should be fine. I doubt you would need them, but may not be a bad idea to bring outbound flight info and your wife's contact, etc.

Hi Anthony thanks for your reply. Right, existing visa expires 02nd Jan 2024, flight to UK from BKK 02nd Feb. So I need exactly 30 days. So I would need to do it on the 2nd Jan in order to have 30 days which would include 1st Feb, is it do able? Thanks

the 2nd of January would be day 1 of 30 so will only get you to the 31st January so you will need to get an extension from immigration in any case, therefore no need to wait until the last day.

I recently went to Phuket immigration on same type of visa and the officer told me that every time I leave the country and come back I would get a new stamp for 90 days…and he said in the situation where I was planning to leave back for my home country (USA) a few days after the 1 year expiration of the visa, he told me just leave Thailand and come back before it expired and I’ll have an additional 90 days and would not have any issues departing after 1 year expiration date.

you must have a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa NOT a 90 day single entry. Those are two different ways that visa is sold

LOOK at your PDF (you got an eVisa if you did it in the US) and see if it is valid for a year from the date of issue and the valid until AND see if it says multiple entry on the number of entries

On a year-long, multi entry Non-O you can get almost 15 months of stay out of the year long visa by bouncing every 90 days and bouncing just before the visa itself expires <- actually you can get 17 months because you can take the 60 day visit thai family extension on that final entry 🙂

@Tod ********
that’s exactly what I have….you are 💯 correct. I didn’t realize the poster was talking about a different kind of visa. Sorry for convoluting the post.

@Jerrod **********
nope, no problem at all (y)

@Jerrod **********
you sound like you have a MULTIPLE entry Non-O visa, while OP had a Single entry Non-O visa. Those are not same..

@Ellie ******
that’s exactly what I have. Sorry I didn’t realize the poster did not have a multi entry as I didn’t see it mentioned in his post. 🙏

There’s also a third choice .. change your departure date

Roi Et immigrations is 100% correct, (y) You can't get a 30 day extension on a 90 day Non-O visa. 😕

You have two in country choices:

meet the financial requirements (400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months) and apply for a year extension based on marriage

OR

Apply for the 60 day visit thai family extension (no proof of funds required) based on marriage to a thai. (clause 2.24 of the current police order)

AND you have one other choice;

You can bounce out and back to get OFF that 90 day Non-O stamp get ON a free 30 day visa exempt entry and take a 30 day extension on that if you need to

Hi Todd thanks for you help. How near to the end of my current visa could I apply for the 60 day visit Thai family extension please? Also, I assume I could apply at ROI ET for that?
Ellie *******
@Ken****
, Here is general information for 60 days family extension, still, you need to check with your local office for their requirement

Thanks ever so much.

you apply at the immigration office that serves the area where you stay so if you're in Roi Et, that's where you go.

I'd go in before you stamp runs out with your thai wife, to get the documentation list and make sure it'll fly (no reason it shouldn't) and that way IF for some reason you can't get it you have time to plan a border bounce
