Hello there, I've a 60-day extension to 'visit my Thai family' that expires December 30th. Sadly i can't raise the required 400k required for a 'marriage visa'. Even so i'm looking to stay on if possible, sooner than return to employment problems in a Covid ravaged UK. Therefore, i'm asking is it possible that i can qualify for a further 60 days with the Covid extension? If so when should i apply for this extension here in Chiang Mai? And lastly if i qualify, will the 60-day Covid extension be tagged on to my current extension that expires Dec 30th? Many thanks in advance..

I think we've taken this post as far as we can. Chris has his options

You are right it is not a visa but a one year extension of stay, based on having Thai family. It is for women (probably not men?) over 50, dependent on an adult Thai child but there is NO financial requirement. It seems to be a very unusual visa extension which Thai officials have never heard of either! I think very few people qualify......

Actually
@Ma**
, ANY foreigner who is over 50 and has a half thai child over 20 that they depend on for care <- meaning the child takes care of the parent can get that yearly extension and there are no financial requirements for it at all. You're right few immigration officers know of it, because so few foreigners here have adult (over 20) half thai kids. ;)

However while that is an option (at least for foreigners here over 50 who have adult half thai kids) it has abso-tively, posi-lutely nothing at all to do with this thread.

So while I thank you for your contributions, I will urge you and everyone to STAY ON TOPIC..

The "no financial requirement" is only for female farangs married to Thai males. Male farangs married to Thai women do need the 400K THB seasoned for 2 months or 40K THB a month in income.

Note: I am not married to a Thai......

Raising half Thai children as a female also doesn't have the financial requirements either.

For me it was possible. I was on a 60 Day Visit Family visa until this 25 Nov and just gotten a another 60 day extension based on "unable to return to home country due to Co-vid" until 24 Jan 2021.

The immigration office will give you a form to fill in for this 60 Day visa. There will be 4 reasons you can choose for applying (wordings not accurate): 1) Unable to return to home country due to Co-vid, 2) Embassy/consulate not issuing letters for extension of stay, 3) no flights and 4) Other reasons. Costs Bht1,900.

Best check with your local immigration office ASAP if they are issuing this visa and the required supporting documents.

If i recall we just submitted documents that we learned from this group would be required. All completely long-standing and genuine.. My wife as always pushed me aside and dealt with the numerous Immigration officers she spoke to. Married cert/copies of everything and signed,TM7, house book, passport, fee and so on. As i mentioned nothing out of the ordinary as far i was aware. Wish i could be more helpful.

@Mike *****
Not to get off topic, but there aren't too many reports about your immigration office. What documents did you need to submit exactly?

Hi Todd, would the Non-O-90 day visa you mention be of use to me and my early question? I originally arrived on a multi-entry based on marriage. I live in Chiang Mai. Thank you.

@Chris ********
It appears you're gonna go apply for your extension and get a 30 day or so extension tagged onto the end of the stamp you have now. As I said CHiang Mai isn't doing 60 day extensions.

You're six weeks away from your current stamp expiring, why not swing by the immigration office and ask them when you should apply for the next extension?
Tod *********
You already stated you can't meet the proof of funds, SO no being on a Non-O 90 day entry (that expired months ago) isn't gonna help you in the least (not unless you ARE going to be able to meet the financial requirements for a year extension when the new 'unable to travel due to covid" extension you want to apply for runs out.

Please believe me when I say I meant no disrespect in my reply at all
@Ch***
. Good luck, take care, stay safe...

To add on; I originally wanted to apply for a 1 year marriage visa but didn't know I needed at least 2 weeks left on my current "family visit visa" to apply.

So the officer suggested I apply for this "60 day unable to return" covid visa (apologies if I get the actual visa terminology wrong) instead.

Hope I can apply for the marriage visa next year. 🤞

I think what you were wanting to do was actually apply for an in country Non-O 90 day visa based on marriage <- that requires a 14 day under consideration period)

where as a year extension based on marriage (AFTER you already have a non-O visa) you can apply for right up until your current stamp is expiring..

BUT

that's neither here nor there to the fact you got a 60 day unable to travel due to covid extension issued on the spot..
Tod *********
What immigration office did you use? Did you get an under consideration stamp and then go back to get the 60 day extension inked in from the date your current stamp expired?
Mike ******
@Tod ********
Chantaburi. No "under consideration" stamp. It was on the spot and the immigration officers here were very helpful.
Tod *********
thanx for that
@Mike *****
(y) Remember people do as
@Mi**
suggested check with the immigration office you use to see how they handle the situation.

I really do appreciate your advice Todd... That's a beer i owe you.👍
Tod *********
It appears that Chiang Mai is one of the offices that is NOT issuing 60 day "unable to travel due to covid" extensions. They are issuing 30 day extensions dated from the date your current stamp runs out.

Still you're over a month away from needing to apply for the extension so sit tight, watch the reports from people and go from there, I wouldn't even think about applying for your next extension until you have 10 days to a week left on this stamp.
Dominic ****
I don't agree with the "10 days to a week" advice. People can't live their lives not knowing which country they'll be living in a week's time. Plus, rushing to buy flights is never fun and is usually expensive.
Tod *********
@Dominic ********
point taken and all I was pointing out was IF the immigration office they're going to use dates the extension they give out from the date you apply for it, going early will burn you for the time you have left. Already people were being turned away by immigration offices and told to come back closer to the date their stamp expires just because of this fact.

The most honest answer is this:

Nobody knows.

You can stay until December 30. I suggest asking this question sometime mid December when more information is revealed.
