 Yes at the discretion of the Immigration Officer holding your passport. You will have issues if you have a history of multiple tourist entries to Thailand in the recent past.

UK passport holders now get 60 days visa exempt, and can be extended once for 30 days, at your local immigration office.

 Not so much get one if you want one.

You can apply for a 30 days extention, rarely refused but they're not a given, all extentions are issued at the discretion of the Immigration office where you apply.

Before everyone kicks off people do get refused extentions of stay

 Yes, of course. In the same way that the 60 day visa exemption is not a ‘given’ - the immigration officer can refuse you.

 You can enter Thailand on a Visa Exempt statues and extend for another 30 days for ฿1,900.

You’ll get 60 days upon arrival and can apply for a 30 days extension at your local immigration. 90 days in total without any visa.
