Thinking of coming to Thailand for 3 months each year and wondering if it possible to obtain a 90 day visa from the uk before travelling. I understand that if come on a 30 day visa one can extend for 30 days then do a broader run for another 30 days - it would be easier just to get a 90 day visa beforehand

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses obtaining a 90-day visa for Thailand prior to departure from the UK. It highlights the option of applying for a single-entry tourist visa, which provides 60 days of stay plus a possible 30-day extension, totaling 90 days. Comments mention the complexities of the application process, requirements for documentation, the potential for re-entry permits, and the advantages of a Non-O retirement visa for older individuals seeking longer stays. Users share insights on navigating immigration rules, visa types, and efficient ways to manage travel plans.

No, 60 day TV and extend 30.

2 hours it took me to apply online for 2 60 day visas. Every bit of documentation I had would not load. I just kept repeating the same uploads and eventually it worked. It was a nightmare to apply online.

if you are over 50 years old, it would be easiest to get a 90 days Non-Imm-O retirement visa (if you can fulfill the requirements). You enter Thailand and get stamped in for 90 days. No border run nor any extension needed. And nobody will ask you to extend for one year. Just leave before the 90 days stay permit are over

But the OP says above in a post that they intend to leave for Australia during this trip. Agreed, next time, if available, a Non-O is the best option for up to 89 days continuous in Thailand.

@Graham *****
oh. I missed to read that. The 90 days Non-O is just good for a continuous stay
Graham ******
@Nongnuch *******
Yes, a Non-OA is 12 month multi-entry but most Non-Os are 90 day single entry
Nongnuch ********
@Graham *****
you can get a multi entry 12 months Non-Imm-O visa as well, each entry gets you a 90 days stay permit
Graham ******
@Nongnuch *******
Yes you can, which is why i said most Non-Os are single entry, not all

Can I clarify please ( because I read something conflicting on another post) can I enter on 60 day SETV. Leave for 2wks within that period, and use a re entry permit to resume the remainder of the visa in Thailand?
Richard *********
what a waste of $$$ reentry is 1,000 baht< FREE visa exempt entry valid for 30 days
Gillian ******
@Richard ********
but we will have over 2 months left to spend in Thailand before we go back to the UK, so we would have to factor in a border bounce if we chose this option.
Richard *********
@Gillian *****
than go holiday for a few days in Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia or....and get another tourist visa :-)
Gillian ******
So would the safest solution be to apply for the METV?
Brandon ************
@Gillian *****
a re-entry permit doesn't add any extra time either. So if you're gone for 2 weeks when you come back you're still going to have used up 2 weeks of your stay.
Gillian ******
@Brandon ***********
that’ll be fine. I just needed reassurance that we can do it 😊 thanks
Graham ******
@Gillian *****
You can but why would you if you get stamped in for 30 days Visa Exempt for each entry (I assume you qualify)?
Gillian ******
@Graham *****
we leave the UK and return 89 days later. In between ( near the beginning) we’re going to Australia for 2wks. We ideally need the 90 day option 👍
Graham ******
@Gillian *****
ok, so you're leaving within the first 30 days so the re-entry permit will maintain your 30+ days of your original entry stamp which you then extend to get you the 89 days. The other option is to enter Visa Exempt originally then acttivate your Tourist Visa on your return from Australia without the need of getting (and possibly being denied) a re-entry permit. Cheaper and less risk.

@Graham *****
and should you already got a TR-visa issued, it means that if you try to get a 30 days visa exempt upon entry, the border official will see your TR visa on the monitor and refuse the visa exempt. He will insist that you use the visa
Graham ******
@Andreas ********
He might do that but it's no certainty. If he does the OP has lost nothing so then it's back to Plan A and the re-entry permit.
Andreas *********
@Graham *****
I have never before read or heard, that Immigration allows you to buy a single re-entry permit on a visa exempt or a 60 days tourist visa. They also have problems with selling you a re-entry permit for a 90-days Non-O visa
Gillian ******
@Graham *****
oh I hadn’t thought of that option. Thank you 😊
Brandon ************
@Gillian *****
many stories of immigration forcing people to use their visa even if they don't show it at the counter and they see it in the computer. Saving your visa may not be an option.

Question ?if you go to thailand. And intend to get none O retirement visa. Do you need book a return date flight? Or one way?. How many times can you fly in and out? When you obtain retirement visa! 🙏🏻
Brandon ************
@Michael ******
if you don't get the retirement visa before you go to Thailand then you need to check with your airline as many airlines will require someone traveling as a tourist without a long term visa to show proof of leaving Thailand.
Richard *********
@Michael ******
with a retirement extension u need apply for a Re entry Permit, they offer single or multiple entries

How many times, every week if you want

thank you Richard👍
Anita ******
I looked at doing this. But they needed info that I didn’t have. Like where I would be staying. I’m not sure if you have to fill in every part of it.
Sam *****
@Anita *****
yeah I find the same. Most countries need an outward ticket within the 60 day visa, but if you are going to extend to 90 days this ticket is then useless. They won’t accept one booked at 90 days even though they are aware you can extend your stay. Stupid really.
Richard *********
@Sam ****
they wont ask if u have a visa for onward travel:

ONLY if ur planning on a visa exempt entry
Sam *****
@Richard ********
most places require you to have the onward ticket to get the visa in the first place. And from my last 3 visa exempt entries, no one asked to see an onward ticket, airline or immigration.
Ann **************
@Sam ****
It's not useless if you rebook for your new exit date? Might have to pay a nuisance change fee, but. . .
Sam *****
@Ann *************
still a retarded system though. If there is n point to having one why make it mandatory? It serves no purpose. Don’t have it.
Ann **************
@Sam ****
I want to have a forward ticket within the time frame in case they ask 🤷 and already (mostly) paid for.
Sam *****
@Ann *************
I am hearing you. It is a big gamble if they do ask.
Andreas *********
@Anita *****
show them a booking for two nights after planned antry, of any hotel.
Paul *******
@Anita *****
Where are you staying: ust put in the name of any hotel in your destination city.
Anita ******
@Paul ******
. I am visiting Koh Chang , Hua Hin and various places. But haven’t decided on which hotels.

Can I actually just put any names down ?
Richard *********
@Anita *****
Put down any hotel you want!

they doint check nor care
Brandon ************
If you only want to go to Thailand for 90 days then just apply for the single entry tourist visa. Very easy to do and you'll get 60 days permission to stay in Thailand when you arrive with this visa. You are also able to apply for a one time 30 day extension, giving you 90 days total.

@Brandon ***********
can a border run then be made for additional time?
