Hey! I'm from the UK and have a couple of question I'm hoping someone will be able to help with.
1. Is the best way for me to get 90 days without having to leave Thailand to apply for a 60 day tourist visa and then extend another 30 when I'm there? Are they still doing those extensions? (planning on coming November/December time)
1. Do I have to apply for that when I'm in the UK or given the process is online could I apply for it whilst already abroad? i..e could I fly into Bangkok for a few days (visa on arrival) - head off elsewhere in Asia for a month, apply then and then come back in on the 60 day?
Thanks so much to anyone who can advise! James

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen seeking to stay in Thailand for 90 days can apply for a 60-day tourist visa, which can be extended for an additional 30 days while in Thailand. It is important to note that visa applications must be made from the applicant's current physical location, so applying from another Asian country is not possible if the individual is in the UK. Alternatives include entering Thailand, using a visa exemption for 30 days, exiting, and then re-entering for another 30 days. An online application process exists, but may still require contact with the embassy depending on individual circumstances.

Get a 60 day visa ,it is valid for 3 months b4 entry .come on a 30 day visa exempt, leave the country like you said you would be doing for a month or so, and come back using you 60 day visa.
BTW, the online process is still not fully online. You can apply online, but you still need to go to the London Embassy/consulate in person with your passport. (As of about a week ago.)
When I was testing it out last week, when I selected UK and UK (passport, and current permenant residence), it listed the Embassy in london. When I did UK and USA, it listed several in the big cities (Chicago, etc). When I listed places like Malaysia, British OTs, India as tests, it would not let me proceed. I took that as there was an element of "going in for an interview" or something.
I just know that even though I have a UK passport, I will not be in London OR the USA anytime soon.
James , what I do is get the tourist visa 60 days , extend at immigration for extra 30 days gives you 90 days, then border bounce for an extra 30 days , 4 months total easy mate
They are proposing to increasing the visa exemption to 45 days and make that extendable by another 45 days. Whether it will happen anytime soon is anyones guess
Yes, a tourist visa is the easiest way to get 90 days inside Thailand.
Just because the visa application process is now online, it hasn't changed the rules. You must apply through the country you are physically in. So if you are not in UK, you cannot apply through the UK embassy online.
None of the countries near Thailand use evisa and require in-person applications. So if you want to come to Thailand first and then go somewhere else, you will need to apply based on the rules in the country you are in at the time.
Finally, as a UK citizen, you cannot get "Visa on Arrival."
You qualify for visa exempt, which means you have NO VISA at all, and are simply stamped in for 30 days. Visa on arrival means you apply for a visa when you arrive and pay for it.
