TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the process and cost of extending a DTV visa in Thailand. Currently, no one has been able to successfully extend a DTV visa, as the visas were issued in late July 2024 and the minimum stay required for extension is 180 days. Early indications suggest that extensions might follow the typical visa process, costing around 1,900 THB. However, various participants in the discussion point out that official details about the exact requirements and procedures are still unclear. Conflicting opinions about whether to extend the visa or travel abroad for a border run are also shared, stressing differing preferences on handling visa situations.

2024 + 180 days give you the answer that nobody has reached the point where you have to choose between extension or borderrun.
Craig *******
Why would you extend a 5 year visa after only 6 months. Just do a border bounce.

headache traveling to a different country just to extend the visa, immigration 20 minutes and extended again lots easier, hence read for this question
Jared *********
It hasn't been 180 days yet since the start of the visa program so no one has done an extension

But we still know the fee is 1900 THB. The same as for any other extension. Directly from the government officer responsible for the visas:

the government officer responsible for issuing the visa in not the same as the government officer responsible for issuing the extension. Nobody knows what the requirements or cost will be as the responsible government officer is silent on the issue.

just because you don’t know doesn’t mean other people don’t know. I guarantee you the extension cost is 1,900 bahts.
Pete *******
@Kf *******
you can’t guarantee anything as nothing official has been published. Unless of course you can share your source of information.
Kf ********
@Pete ******
All extensions cost 1,900 bahts. That’s the rule. I’m not going to discuss it any further. Read the relevant websites if you like.

@Kf *******
so you can’t back up your statement with any facts but insist your correct? Your assumption of the DTV visa cost is just that, an assumption, not a fact. Your guessing and I prove it by stating there in no official announcement regarding requirements or costs of an in country extension for the DTV. Technically the very earliest someone could apply for the in country extension is 27th Nov. We shall have to wait and see what the actual cost and requirements are.
Sani **********
@Pete ******
Wrong. He is THE government officer responsible for everything about visas and extensions... He knows all the regulations....

@Sani *********
rubbish, the MFA is responsible for Embassy issued visas and Immigration responsible for entries and extensions. Completely different government departments who actually don’t talk very well to each other. The MFA have nothing to do with extensions.

Yes, but if you want to extend another 180 days in country there will be an extension fee just like there is any other visa

is for the five years duration of the visa. Extensions are 1900 each time

As the first DTV Visas were issued late July 2024, the earliest those who were issued those early visas and quickly used them to enter Thailand and stayed in Thailand throughout that period to get to 180 days would be late January 2025....

Nobody has done an extension yet.
Romain ****
I don’t see any reason why would you extend ! Just have a one or 2 day trip to Vietnam Cambodia or Malaysia and go back and restart the counter
Greg **********
@Romain ***
you have to get it extended every 180 days
Greg ********
@Greg *********
You can only extend it one time per entry. So after 360 days you woukd have to leave Thailand. You cannot just extend it in country.

unless you exit and come back and get another 180 days

This is probably the most stupid answer I've seen.

Of course you'd want to do an extension for 1900 THB instead of the hassle of travelling to another country. Which will be much more expensive.

The answer is: It is 1900 THB for the extension.

10 000 thb is for the VISA application.

I agree with you, I already extended a 30 day stay visa exempt more than once at immigration, even while our home is about 75 kilometers from Malaysian border.

It is just faster to go to immigration, but that might be different at other immigaration offices.

But now with DTV I probably never need extension again, 180 days is a longtime.

@Sani *********
my dtv app was 400$ usd / 14,000 baht
Sani **********
@Paul *********
Yes. It varies with different embassies but the RRP is 10 000 THB... Some embassies charge more just because they can... (and maybe to get some extra in their pockets)

it's not a stupid answer at all. I would much rather have a weekend break out of Thailand every 6 months, rather than have to deal with immigration in an office all day. Fair play if you enjoy wasting your time.. that's cool too.
Luit *****************
@Milo ********
A break out of Thailand certainly is nice but also wastes a lot of time when only for a weekend, at least more time than the average visit to an immigration office. But 180 days in Thailand is a long time, so I do not see the need for extensions at all.

I divide spending my time between Thailand and Europe, but when 180 days was not enough I would simply extend at immigration office, the way it is meant .
Sani **********
@Milo ********
As I said in my previous comment... 1-2 hours max...
Milo *********
@Sani *********
depends where you live. Not everyone has an immigration office on their doorstep. But even if it was just 2 hours, I'd still rather take a vacation out of Thailand. I wouldn't want to give any bureaucrat more than a second of my time if I don't have to. You do you though 👍
Romain ****
@Sani *********
probably not much more expensive and time is money too. And it’s nice to travel a bit rather than waste time giving all papers again and wait in queue at immigration 🤣
Luit *****************
@Romain ***
You tell it is nice to travel, and I agree with that.

But I want to travel at a moment I like to go, and not just to get an extra 180 days stay which I can also buy for 1900 baht.

Traveling can also be a wate of time, like waiting for boarding the plane or waiting at the airport in queues for immigration.

Those queues can easiliy take more time than a visit to an immigration office.
Ko *******
@Romain ***
i would also rather have a trip outside and come back,instead of paying a fee and dealing with the immigration.
Andy ************
@Romain ***
What papers? So a 45 minute visit to immigration is more time than a two-day visit to another country? 😂
Romain ****
@Andy ***********
probably need to provide all proofs again with the

0 bahts and situation etc
Andy ************
@Romain ***
Do you know that or are you guessing?
Romain ****
Andy ************
Romain ****
@Andy ***********
that’s not confirmed yet as no one is close to 6 months stay now, but MFA official on a video said about providing again the same papers. That’s most likely logic, as per all extensions for other visas
Andy ************
@Romain ***
MFA is nothing to do with Immigration
Romain ****
@Andy ***********
yes but that’s still better than Facebook expert of nothing 🤣 and basically it makes sense : retiree have to give same every extension, same as ED, same as everyone, no reason why extending a DTV stay would not need this
Mark *******
@Andy ***********
it’s definitely faster and cheaper to do an extension than leave for a day - but to each their own - there are plenty of cool places to go if you have the funds
Andy ************
@Mark ******
I alternate every 3-4 months between Australia, Europe and the USA so that's fine, but it's nothing to do with original question which was the price of an extension?
Romain ****
@Andy ***********
any extension is 1900 baht. There is no specific rule anywhere saying that extension for DTV visa would have a different price.
Sani **********
@Romain ***
My extensions take no longer than 1-2 hours at the immigration...
Romain ****
@Sani *********
if your time is valued so few then you’re absolutely right I have a very stupid answer. But in my case, I value my time more and I prefer to use it for travel and enjoy a weekend abroad than doing paper work and then spending 2 hours at immigration + spend 1900 baht.
Namtan ****************
Any type of visa extension uses the same application form and costs 1,900 Baht.

@Namtan ***************
we hope that is true about the DTV visa extension.

Correct ✅
Pete *******
Nobody knows as no one has yet to do it. I went to Jomtien recently and asked for the requirements and got the answer “Sorry Mister no have”.
Sani **********
@Pete ******
Yes we know for sure. Directly from the officer in the Thai Government responsible for the visas:

**********************************
Pete *******
@Sani *********
the officer responsible for the visa is not the officer responsible for extensions. We know nothing about requirements and cost.
Sani **********
@Pete ******
Wrong. He is THE government officer responsible for everything about visas and extensions... He knows all the regulations.... and fees...
