I suppose the first applicants for the DTV passed the 180 days point by now.

So, share details about the extension phase for the next 180 days please.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the DTV visa and its extension phase after the initial 180 days. Participants clarify that the DTV visa was only launched on July 15, 2024, so no applicants have actually passed the 180 days mark yet. The earliest possible extensions could be anticipated in January 2025, assuming individuals entered Thailand right after the visa was issued. There's also a conversation about possible alternatives to extensions, such as border runs to nearby countries like Laos or Singapore, for which participants note the associated costs. Furthermore, details about the extension fees (around 1,900 baht) and procedures remain largely speculative at this time.

Just take a short trip abroad

I managed to find a screen shot from a chap that shared it from the 30th July... By my understanding the first few potential extensions could be in mid/late January 2025....

Assuming people entered the kingdom similar to 'Radek' date etc....?

I believe mine was if not the first in the first day they issued them.. Announced Mon July 15th and issued July 16th.. Which if you flew the very next day (impossible) you cant really have got here until the 17th or 18th of July.

So the first 180 days will be middle Jan.

Reckon safe bet is bounce out country. Was youtube video earlier lawyer Bangkok thinks will change soon... this is Thailand, nobody knows what will happen

@Urs *******
It's quite obvious from being in this group. It's also obvious when you know anything about Thailand and the types of foreigners who live here, most have some sort of prior connection with the country.

YouTube have flat earth videos too. Just a bitter lawyer getting no fees off this visa
Jim ***********
@Ray ****
yup he's controversial. Many people saying visas too good be true.

Which lawyer was it - the American guy?

he's controversial and a youtuber

yes Integrity Legal
Paul *******
@Jim **********
Yes, he's claiming extensions won't be possible. I don't know where he and Barry Kenyon (his buddy from the Pattaya Mail) get their alternative facts. Unless he has some sort of insider knowledge, he's speculating and much of what he talks about with respect to the DTV can be safely ignored.
Greg ********
@Jim **********
Yeah I get the controversial bit. He is basing this video on the Pattaya Mail talking to an unamed immigration source privately who is not sure lol.

@Greg *******
that be AJ . 🤣

Yeah these professionally trained journo's 😉 Pattaya is the place where people "Reinvent" themselves for sure!

@Ray ****
im on O visa and doubt the criteria be same when my visa expires next April.

@Jim **********
I don't see why not, with over 750,000 empty condos in Bangkok there is many more people required here.

They want people here and this visa is getting the feet on the ground and people spending money in Thailand
Urs ********
@Ray ****
Let me guess: Only a fraction of those who apply for a DTV have a reasonable income and want to work as nomads in Thailand. The rest are young people who see the DTV more as a visa to live in a cheap country for as long as possible.

And those who are financially well off will probably not live in a condo in Bangkok.

That's just a guess, I could be wrong!

@Urs *******
Quite a few DTVers are retirees, those married to Thais etc who don't want to deal with immigration every year and/or don't want to park 400K/800K in their account for months on end every single year.

The DTV is a suitable alternative for them.
Urs ********
@Paul ******
Quite a few DTV users are retired or married to Thais? How do you know? Not even the first 180 days have passed since the introduction of the DTV.
Urs ********
@Paul ******
I doubt that you get a new DTV after your 5 years are over. By the way, I live in Thailand for 8 years on a O retirement visa and dealing with the immigration was never a problem. Took me 40 minutes most time to renew it.
Ray *****
@Urs *******
so what? They are still spending money in Thailand
Jim ***********
@Ray ****
. 5 year tourist visa as regards 1 year residents retirement visa.... hopefully we get offered 5 years extension on O visa
Greg ********
@Jim **********
There are 5 and 10 year Retirement Visas available - the requirements are higher than a 1 year visa but not too onerous (1.8 million THB)

Ray *****
@Jim **********
5 year multiple entry tourist visa with which you can stay literally every day for 5 years with only 1 border run a year

The multiple entry part is worth it on its own. It's 4k per year for us non O visa holders
Jim ***********
@Ray ****
yip I paid 1900 plus 3800 multi and left once. Was not gona get multi this year , wish hadn't as would be on DTav now
Mar *****
Slightly intrigued as to what calendar your using and start date was 15th July... To assume anyone received there DTV and actually used it from day dot and entered Thailand

As I remember the first post of someone with Picture of 'DTV' stamp in there passport etc...

Was a sight to be hold 🤩😍😎🙏🏽

Are you planning to Apply for the DTV visa?

Are you still teaching in a Thailand language school?

Are you planning to retire?

What purpose of the DTV visa are you going to apply for?
Tom *********

@James *******
Just the paperwork and money in the bank for an OA visa. Seems to be easier.
James ********
@Tom ********
that's not a problem. Easier and no money required to be in a Thai bank when applying for the OA visa for retirement. Infact there's Expats who get a new OA visa every 2 years by returning to their home country to get the New OA visa.
Rud **********
GOOGLE : The DTV visa allows stays of up to 180 days with a visa issuance fee of ฿9,304 to ฿40,808 baht, valid for five years. DTV holders can extend their stay once per entry stamp for an additional 180 days with another 1,900 baht fee and may request to change the type of visa within the country
Jonas *************
@Rud *********
maybe provide a reference to an immigration website webpage?

I've not heard that prices would be vaping that much *at* immigration?
Myles *******
U suppose wrong
James ********
Its not yet been 180 days from a DTV visa issued July 15, 2024.
Romain ****
I guess this extension is just theory, best is to go somewhere and come back, same price as an extension and you’ll need no paperwork and can enjoy a nearby country :) a trip to Vientiane by train would be super cheap and nice to do (Richard Barrow’s Thai Train Guide will give plenty of info on his website)
Phil *******
@Romain ***
2000 visa to get into Laos though.
Kevin *******
For the cost of an extension (1900 baht I believe is the rumor), you could almost fly somewhere and back. My family and I are on DTV, and we went to Singapore from Krabi for a few thousand baht each, then you don't have to pay for an extension. One could even go somewhere closer and cheaper. Just something to consider when deciding to extend or border hop.
Jay *******
@Kevin ******
what website do you use to book flights to other places in SE Asia?
Kevin *******
@Jay ******
I used Jetstar. It's my only experience flying in Asia. I'm new here. The entire experience with Jetstar was great, friendly, comfortable seats, fast boarding process, etc...Cheap airline but very good 👍

@Ke***
, I’d much rather have a short holiday than spend another day at immigration. What a waste of time and paper.
Mike *****
@John ********
yeah depends... I stay next to Laos and make it a holiday. Immigration here is about 15-30 minutes in out, also an option...Bkk I had days waiting 5-6 hrs, never again 😆

Ahhh ..but ..really something to fo when retired ...like I do my TM30 in person ..this year I see 2 old friends ...had great chat ..even stay after for a chat ...

No one knows what will be required as yet. The earliest someone could apply would be the 27th November. And that’s if they got their visa on day 1 and are using an office that accepts 45 days prior.
Greg ********
DTV Visa launched July 15th 2024. Nobody has had one for 180 days yet
