Hi, my parents are coming from the UK end of Feb using the Thailand Pass scheme and want to stay 50 days, does anyone know how long they get on arrival? Is it 30 days or 60 days? And if 30 days, can they extend it at immigration? TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers arriving in Thailand can either enter on a visa-exempt entry for 30 days or use a single entry tourist visa for 60 days. Both options allow for a single extension of 30 days at immigration, but for a stay of 50 days, obtaining a tourist visa before departure is recommended for convenience.

Please know I meant no disrespect toward you with my answers. EVERYONE needs a Thai Pass to get in to the country whether they come in with no visa and get 30 days or whether they buy a tourist visa before the come here and get stamped in for 60 days.

Ellie brings up a good point though, seeing as your parents are already coming for 50 days, getting them each a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in the UK using the online system before they come here would sure streamline their time here as they'd get stamped in for 60 days when they land AND if they did decide to stay a little more they'd have a whole 30 day extension they could get too giving them a total of 90.

Just a thought,.

They would apply for the visa here at this online portal

Just a thought.

If they are planning to travel for 50days already, I think it better to get SETV (see Tod's comment), they will be stamped for 60days upon entering Thailand. Less hustle for check-in to an airline and some points with the return ticket with the date of 50days (that is longer than the period visa-exempt entry stamp gives you).

And there is still an option of 30days tourism extension in case.

All extensions have to be done at the local immigration office.

You have 30 days free entry then you have to reapply for tourists visa that will allow you another 30 days hope this helps

@Paul ********
that is totally NOT correct information, SO even though it was polite it was WRONG.

You can't reapply for a tourist visa that will allow you another 30 days. Tourist visas are bought in thai consulates outside of thailand before you wing your way here and when you enter on one you get stamped in for 60 days.

You are talking about a 30 day extension <- which I said in my original answer that the O/P's parents could get at the immigration office entering on a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa entry.

@Paul ********
there is no tourist visa available when you are already in Thailand.

@Ellie ******
can I correct you on this as I have just got one today in hua hin
Ellie *******
@Paul ********
No. Because what you got is an extension, not a visa.

You didn't 'reapply for a visa', you did apply for an extension based on tourism purpose.

30 days on arrival yes can extend another 30 days.

you are confusing thai pass with entering the country. The thai pass system gives you permission to enter, it doesn't get you stamped in for any length of time.

They have two choices entering from the UK. They can enter on what's called a visa exempt entry <- they didn't BUY a visa from a thai consulate in their country before they came here and were stamped in for 30 days for free.

OR

They can buy a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in the UK (done thru the online system) before they come here and when they show up they'll get stamped in for 60 days

EITHER of those two entries (30 day visa exempt or 60 day tourist visa) can be extended ONCE at the immigration office for 1900baht for 30 more days.

can you reply in a polite way they are asking in a polite way

Sorry to seem so terse
@Paul ********
, i'm a no nonsense kinda person and my writing style is terse, coarse, blunt, to the point and often times acerbic too ๐Ÿ˜ฎ (FWIW: I'm this way in real life as well).

I mean no disrespect to people when I answer AND I did provide a well thought out and comprehensive answer for the O/P.

I freely admit this group isn't for everyone, (and it might not be for you if you have an issue with the way I answer posts ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

understand and thank you for your understanding

I know when sometimes writing it can be misrepresented by others I didnโ€™t mean to be rude just wanted to point out how I read things at the end of the day you are trying to help people and I thank you for that

not really

It's 30 days which they can extend once. Why not have them apply for a tourist visa before coming? That gives them 60 days without having to visit immigration. Plus they'll have the option to extend for a further 30 days should they wish.
