Hi there!
I have two questions :
1. I have heard/read that if you stay beyond the exemption period (so after August 1st), an there is no prolonging of fhe exemption , you will have to pay a 20,000 baht fine. Is that true? Are there any other consequences? Is can you just pay the fine, and wait until borders have opened up again and then do a visa run?
2. We are on a visa upon arrival which you could extend once with 30 days , however we never did because the exemption came. Is there any chance to get that 30 days extension still for after August 1st? And if so, is it possible to get it in koh samui (since we live in koh pagnan)?
TLDR : Answer Summary
The amnesty for overstaying visas in Thailand is set to expire on July 31st, and starting August 1st, overstayers face a daily fine of 500 baht, which can accumulate up to a maximum of 20,000 baht. Consequences of overstaying include arrest, detention, deportation, and potentially being blacklisted from re-entering Thailand. Those under the visa exemption who did not apply for a 30-day extension can still apply for it before the amnesty period ends, but it must be done at the local immigration office.
