Hi I am intending to visit Thailand again for @ 6 months starting in October. I am retired (so cant get the new nomad visa) will travel with my Thai wife of many years. Last year I went on a Tourist visa, extended it for 30 days, they got a family visa then popped over to Laos for a day.

To simplify matters this year plan to apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist visa - have been assured that this lets you enter the country for 3 x of 60 days in a 6 months period - so idea being arrive after 60 days go to Laos returning the same day which will also be day one of the second 60 days, at the end of which repeating this process - so total of 177 days in Thailand. My question is step 3 of the Multiple entry application asks for date of arrival (okay) BUT then asks date of departure is this the 60th day ie when I go in/out to get my next entry on my visa OR is it the 157th day?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to visit Thailand for 6 months and is considering applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV). They seek clarification on the departure date to include in their visa application—whether it should be the date of the first exit after 60 days or the total planned duration of 177 days. Responses from the community indicate that to qualify for the METV, the applicant needs to show exit and entry tickets, demonstrating the necessity for multiple entries. The departure date should align with the exit from Thailand, supporting the application for a multiple entry visa.

You can extend the 60 days by 30 then leave and do it again twice you can get almost 9 months

If done correctly correctly the METV can get almost 9 mths.

60 on entry extend 30 in country.

Exit and reenter, same thing over again.

It seems by your post/comments you are concerned about the amount of tourists entries you have in your PP.

Maybe look at options like a multientry non-o based on marriage.

Gets a year bouncing in and out every 90 days, with the ability to do a thai family 60 day extension.

Gets you 5 months without a bounce and no problems with immigration.

There are many options if you meet the finances to keep entering without raising flags.

Thanks Chris retirement income is okay but any that need substantial savings are not an option at this time as put money into properties. All the best

I think in order to get the METV you need to show you leaving Thailand and re entering. This shows the need for a Multiple entry. You can always use an onward ticket company for the application.

Thanks Stephen I am hoping someone can tell me about multiple entry visas and how many days I say I am staying ie the 60 after arrival or the total I intend if I pop over a land border and return twice ie 177 days.

you will need to show that you are leaving and entering again again to show the need for a multiple entry visa. I'm not sure if that has to be within 60 days or the 90 days, but you must show an exit ticket and a second entry ticket to show the need for a multiple entry visa. So definitely not the total amount of days. Again, you'll need to show at least 2 entry tickets and 1 departure. The good thing is, you can get close to 9 moths stay from this visa

Go visa excempt 60 days, extend 30 days, cross a border, repeat.

( May need a onward ticket )

If you are from any country with visa exemption, just come with 60 days, bring thai wife to immigration to get another 60 days extension, than go lao and get back again with 60, and another trip to immigration with wife to get another 60.

thanks Ning Ning did similar last year but advised by immigration in Chiang Rai to get Multi entry tourist visa

You can apply for a 90 days Non O visa at home before you leave with income/pension if you can meet the financial requirement, apply for a 60 days extension based on being married thai which gives you 150 days first, then do a border bounce and re-enter on a 60 days visa exemption. Then you don’t have to worry of any flight tickets.

Thank you Jan very similar to what I did last year but immigration advised to use multi entry tourist visa - am trying to find out the answer to how many days I put as above. All the best

The DTV is not a digital nomad visa. It has many ways of qualifying for it. You can qualify by taking a class in Thailand (even just a cooking class) or by having a doctor's appointment.

To apply for the METV they need you to show them why you need "multiple" entries. That means a flight into Thailand, a flight out of Thailand within 60 days, and then another flight into Thailand. That shows you will enter Thailand more than once and they will issue the visa. If you do not show them this, they might issue you a single entry visa instead and keep the difference in application fee.

Thank you for your advice unfortunately flying in and out twice and Doing a course would cost and be more time consuming than even what we did last year.

ok to answer your question its the first 60 day travel date. Yes you can extend and use an onward travel site to book a flight for the METV. But why not apply for a married Visa or a retirement visa Paul?

@Phil *****
sorry and I got the married visa and tourist visa with extension also left country via land border and returned - but immigration advised me a multi entry tourist visa would be far easier - think the issue is I spend half my year in U.K. and half In Thailand but there seems no simple way to do that.

ok he maybe right if you only spend 6 months inside Thailand. But METV is a Multi Entry Tourist Visa and

you'll have 60 days then extend 30 days for ฿1,900, leave Thailand which is something you don't want. Its hard.

I missed your comment sorry about retired

Thanks Phil - never simple but think I will go back to what I did last time- get a 60 day tourist visa, extend it there for 30 days. Then get a 60 day family visa then do a border run to get 30 more days. Only downside again is the time wasted in immigration office and extra cost for flexible flights and having to change return flight each time get another visa. Still could be worse. All the best.

@Phil *****
Thanks Phil the METV seems impossible for me as retired and thus no employer or intention of doing a course and

METV is a tourist visa. Why would you think that would be difficult as retired?

Though with the new 60 day visa exemption you could simply extend that and do 1 single border bounce to get 6 months
