How does the METV expiration affect re-entry and visa extension for my stay in Thailand?

Admin - I hope the my specific situation is permissible to post.

I have a METV that ends 03/05. I will exit Thailand in Feb. and return 02/27 to start another 60 days (which ends 4/27). I will exit Thailand in April and return 4/24. Since 4/24 is beyond the METV end date of 3/05, I believe this will NOT start another 60 days. correct? Thus I would need to do a Visa extension before 4/27 to add 30 days. I appreciate the opportunity to share this example and receive feedback.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about their Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) situation as they plan to travel in and out of Thailand and is concerned about the expiration date of their visa. They are uncertain whether returning to Thailand after their METV expires would allow them to start another 60-day entry or if they need to secure a visa extension beforehand. Comments clarify that exiting Thailand voids the current visa unless a re-entry permit is obtained, and suggest considering a Visa Exempt entry for their return.

Thank you 😊Alistair and Graham - I mistakenly thought that my last 60 day stamp in that ends after the METV visa end date retained the "multiple entry" aspect.

If you don't want to get a Visa Exempt entry (assuming you qualify) for your April re-entry you can get a re-entry permit which maintains your exit stamp from your last 60 day entry stamp or the extension on that stamp if you're allowed to do it. However, looking at the likely dates of your exit stamps either way I think Visa Exempt is the way to go.

When you leave the country whatever visa or stamp you had is void (unless you purchase a re-entry permit before leaving). So when you return you get a new visa/stamp.

So if you leave after your METV has ended on the 5th of March. Then when you come back you'll be stamped in visa exempt (assuming you have an American passport).
