Hey guys, dumb question but I have a 6 month METV and wondering where I can look to find information on when I have to leave the country and come back? I heard it's every 60 days but haven't checked out the details yet. Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the rules regarding their 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand, specifically when they need to leave the country and return. Responses indicate that after 60 days in Thailand, they will need to perform a 'border run' to renew their status. Additionally, it's mentioned that there's no required duration to stay out of Thailand during the border run, allowing for immediate re-entry.

Most Western countries get a free 30 day visa on arrival that can be extended another 30 days (total 60) for 1900 baht at an immigration office in Thailand. After that 60 days, one must leave the country and then can return and repeat the same process. It seems like you have to do the same thing with the 6 month METV. If this is the case, what is the benefit of the 6 month METV?

You can also enter via land border as many times as you like, which is a massive bonus for someone like me who lives just across the border....

Joseph. Its a free 30 day visa exemption, not a visa on arrival.

Oh now I understand. You get 60 days each entry for no additional cost. Then if you want to extend another 30 days beyond that 60, you pay 1900 baht.

Maybe look at the costs, could be cheaper to get a visa than flying around twice to other countries.

Benefit: You get 60 days on entry, so no payment needed for 1.900 Thb. If you plan correctly you can make 4 entries for 60 days and extend the last one with 30 days that gives you 270 days inside Thailand. You can do only 2 border runs without a visa at landborders, that means with extensions maximum 120 days and than you have to fly out and back.

Thanks this is very helpful

Just long enough to stamp out Thailand, stamp in/out neighbor country and walk back to stamp inside Thailand.

When you do a border run how long do you have to stay out?
Steve *******
There's no time limit. You can come straight back in
Robert *******
If you arrive in Thailand, Immigration officer at the passport checkpoint put a new stamp in your passport. This stamp is Admitted to Stay ../../.. date. You can stay till that day and than have to do a border run, or apply for an Extension of Stay.

It should be 60 days if the OP has the metv that he states he has.
