What are the key points and restrictions regarding the METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) for Thailand?

First I’d like to thank the mods for all their time and answers, it’s been really helpful reading through a bunch of the posts, it’s the most accurate info I’ve gotten with a ton of conflicting info out there.

With that all said, I’d still like to 100% confirm what I believe to be true.

I am looking at the METV.

- This will allow me entry and exit for 6 months from the issuing date

- entry and exits unlimited but cannot stay longer than 60 days at any point of the 6mo

- must have an onward flight for the first 60

- must show accommodations for first part of the trip

- if I returned from being out of Thailand, on day 179, I then have 60 days from that point in time and potentially 30 days of extension (subject to immigration officer) for a total of close to 9 months

Can someone please confirm for me if all these are true? If not, what am i not understanding ?

My follow up questions are:

- does the METV restrict me from going back to Thailand on a SETV after the 180 days or ~ 270 days are up within the same 365 day period?

- does the METV clock run for one year, meaning, if I get it issued Feb 10 2024, can I then apply for the METV again back in my home country on Feb 10, 2025? Or are there restrictions applying for back to back METVs?

I hope this makes sense and thanks in advance !

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking confirmation and clarification regarding the details and restrictions of the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand. They believe the METV allows multiple entries within a 6-month period, with a maximum stay of 60 days per entry, and they inquire about onward flight requirements, accommodations, and potential extensions. Additionally, the user raises questions about the possibility of applying for a new METV after the initial one expires, and any restrictions regarding re-entering Thailand with a different visa type (SETV) after the METV period.

Just a piece of information as these have been asked often.

Q. does the METV restrict me from going back to Thailand on a SETV after the 180 days or ~ 270 days are up within the same 365 day period?

-> No written restriction on that. However, approval of your entry is all at the discretion of the officer at passport control at the entry point to Thailand at the time.

Q. does the METV clock run for one year, meaning, if I get it issued Feb 10 2024, can I then apply for the METV again back in my home country on Feb 10, 2025? Or are there restrictions applying for back to back METVs?

- That depends on the policy of the Thai consulate/embassy where you are applying for your visa at. Some have no restrictions and issue another one immediately. Some set limits on the maximum number of tourist visas within a certain period. Check with them.

Your First set of understandingd about how the METV works is correct.

BUT if you are trying to stay in Thailand a long time...think again.

Your follow-up questions are nice if possible... but there comes a time when...

You will be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival into Thailand at some point in your seeking to re-enter Thailand beyond the METV.

And with that I suggest that the OP look at the available Thai Visas on the Thai Embassy website in his home country or in others. We wish him success in obtaining the METV. It's a great Thai visa for Up to 9 months stay in Thailand.
