What are the steps to get a Thai Non-O visa based on marriage for a British citizen?

I would be really grateful if someone could write a full, simple step by step guide to getting a visa based on marriage to a Thai (I'm British, on tourist visa, married for 2 months, living near Khon Kaen at my wife's house).

And what one has to do each year.

I've got lots of bits from this page and very grateful but still seems daunting though many people must be managing it successfully.

Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Thai Non-O visa based on marriage, a British citizen should first ensure they meet the financial requirements, which involves having 400K baht in their account for at least 2 months or demonstrating a monthly income of at least 40K baht. A simpler alternative is to apply for a multi-entry Non-O visa at the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, Laos, which does not require financial proof. This visa allows for multiple re-entries into Thailand while needing to exit every 90 days. After securing a 90-day Non-O visa, the individual should transfer the required funds, wait for them to be seasoned in the account, and apply for a yearly extension afterward. The process includes submitting necessary documents like marriage certificates and your wife’s ID to the consulate or immigration office.

You can get a work visa with your marriage extension if you get it in Thailand.

Can you sill get a work visa if you get you visa with marriage outside of Thailand ?

And on that visa you can open a account on SET Stock exchange Thailand and you pay tax on every trade you make.

Using your 400k in the bank.

And make sure its in there for 2 monthsbefore you get your next extension. I can't see that you whould be breaking any rules. Can you ?

yep, you can totally hold a work permit while on a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage that you got from a thai consulate.

Okay

Seems less daunting now

Thanks

Mark,

-I know people on their 5th or 6th yearly Non-O from Savannakhet

-There is no sign Savannakhet is changing their requirements

-You are confusing entering the country on a valid VISA which can be done as much as you want with the rule about only getting TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year

Savannakhet requires the two marriage certificates, thai wife's i/d and house book

Doesn't matter where you live in Thailand you can go to the Savannakhet consulate and get the visa

Honestly, between the two options I will weigh in with
@And***
, (y)

Getting a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa in Savannakhet and then border-bouncing every 90 days is far easier and less troublesome than the in country Non-O and extension option.

This can be done every year?

Surely at some stage Savannakhet will also require financial proof?

Can border crossings be by land or only 2 per year like tourist visas?

What does Savannakhet require?

What if, at some stage, we are not living at wife's house?

I know some of these have been answered elsewhere but not so easy to find.

Another option would be to open a bank account in your name, transfer 400K baht into it, then apply for the 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office. That application goes under consideration for 14 days and you'd go back and get a 90 day Non-O visa and the new 90 day stamp inked into your passport.

Once you got that you would wait until the money was "seasoned" in the account for 2 months then go back and apply for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office. That application would go under consideration for 30 days (and the immigration officers would come to your house and tlak to your neighbors) then you'd go back and they would stamp the year extension into your passport.

One option like
@And***
, said would be to go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O based on marriage to a thai without showing ANY financial proof. With that visa you would have to exit/re-enter the country every 90 days to get another 90 day stamp but you could do that for 15 months.

You can extend each 90 day entry to Thailand for 60 days based on marriage at your local Immi office. So you can effectively get 450 days out of a 12 month Visa.

@Gar***
, what embassy? Do you mean no need to go to the immigration office? Nope you don't have to go there.

You get the visa from the thai consulate in Savannakhet, get stamped in for 90 days and every 90 days you stamp out of thailand in&out of another country and back into thailand.

Any expense you would have would be in getting a visa for another country to stamp in and out of.
Gareth **********
So no need to go to an embassy, just exit and enter and no additional fees too? Thanks as always
Tod *********
@Gar***
, once you get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O every 90 days you stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country then stamp back into thailand. You do this for the validity of the visa (a year from the date it's issued).

@Tod ********
, once obtained at Savannakhet, could the 90 day exit/re-entry be done at any border/ or embassy?

@Mark ************************
just go to Savannakhet in Laos for the Multi entry non O visa based on marriage, which is ok in Thailand for 15 months.
Tod *********
while that is indeed an option, it is not the only option and I wanted to see if there was a way the O/P could meet the requirements to get the 90 day Non-O and the year extension inside the country at the immigration office.
Tod *********
before we get into a long drawn out list the real question is can you meet the financial requirements of 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name for 2months prior to you applying for an extension based on marriage OR by showing a notarized statement from your consulate saying you get over 40K baht a month in income from abroad?

Yes to 400K but don't have a Thai bank account yet. No to 40K a month.
