TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks advice on the process for obtaining a Non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai national before moving from the UK to Thailand. Key suggestions include applying for the Non-O visa at a Thai embassy, then extending it for a year by providing financial requirements such as having funds in a Thai bank account. Important steps include checking specific immigration office requirements, considering the timeline for application, and evaluating alternative options like retirement extensions.

The first question, where you legally married in Thailand at the local Amphur office?

Althought I'm Dutch, I think you have to deal with a Thai Embassy/Consulate, which are quite general concerning Visa's. The non imm O visa is the easiest way to go.

Allowed in Thailand for 90 days. After e.g. 60 days you can apply in Thailand at the immigraton Office where you are registered (TM30 form, normally within 24 hours after you arrive at your living place), for a year extension based on marriage. (It's NOT a visa anymore, although many people call this a visa. The visa gets a stamp "USED")

Most important is you have a Thai bank account in your name only, with 400k฿ in it. Because UK is one of the 4 countries where the UK Embassy does not give an income statement, you also can transfer (as international) more than 40k฿ every month for 12 months to that bank account instead of the 400k฿. Not sure if the 400k฿ also have to be in that account for more than 2 months before applying, but I think so. But you have to ask your imm. office for a handout what they need exactly. There always can be some differences between these offices.

Check 2-3 months before you are applying for the Visa in the UK because maybe there are some changes although not likely. One advantage of the year extensions based on a non imm. O visa (instead of non imm O-A) is, that you don't need a Thai health insurance.

Note. Some people prefer the retirement year extension even if married (although 800k฿ in bank or 65k฿(every month 12 times)) because it's less paperwork. AND you get your extension on the spot, so no 1 month waiting for "under consideration" period.

Good luck ! 🙏

I get it, but if your wife starts a business you cannot expand ANY effort without a work permit.

The disadvantages of a retirement visa are that you cannot apply for a work permit as well as the higher deposit amount.

Marriage visa May initially be more scrutiny.
