TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a UK resident married to a Thai citizen with three children, faces difficulties in obtaining a multiple entry Non-O visa, as they can only apply for a single entry visa valid for 90 days. Comments suggest that multiple entry Non-O visas may only be issued at the London embassy, with other consulates being unable to provide them. Recommendations include entering Thailand on a tourist visa or single entry Non-O visa, then applying for an extension of stay at Immigration in Thailand, which requires financial proof. Additionally, some users suggest considering job opportunities and language skills for work visas.

I've heard going from a tourist visa or 30 day exemption to non O multi entry can be more difficult than going from non O to gain a new non O visa.

Umm, you can't go from a Non-O to a Non-O visa inside the country :/ I think you mean getting a yearly extension of stay on an existing Non-O. ;)

It's certainly not beyond the means of most people to come in on either a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa and apply for a 90 day Non-O inside the country. It just goes under consideration for a period of time before you go back and get it stamped into your passport. (Bangkok it's 14 days, other provinces it can be longer).

Then once you get the Non-O stamped into your passport you wait until you have 45 days or less left on it and apply for a yearly extension of stay.

The thai consulates in Cardiff and Hull haven't been able to issue year-long, multi-entry visas for ANY reason for quite a while now. All those go thru London.

I thought you just get a 1 year re-entry stamp

Unfortunately that is not the case.

Ive heard the same, even London are not issuing multi entry non imm o based on marriage. Arrive on a 30 day visa exemption and then go to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, Laos and apply for your multi entry non imm o based on marriage, no financials required.

@Tr**
. Ok, yeah Savanakhet no problem

I'm talking about savanakhet

@Tr**
. A friend of mine was knocked back in London this year. Only single entry and told to extend in Thailand.

I did it last year...no issues

This is my plan. Getting married next week then off to Savannakhet soon after....fingers crossed

You can only get the Multiple 1 year Non O visa based on marriage at the Embassy, than when you enter Thailand you get 90 days admitted to stay and have to do a border run for another 90 days. What they suggest is: Apply for Single Entry Non O visa for 90 days, go to Immigration in Thailand and apply for 1 year Extension Of Stay. For this Extension you need 400.000 Thb on a bank account on your name for 2 months or 40.000 Thb a month certified by UK Embassy income. Benefit with Extension of Stay, no more border runs but have to report every 90 days at local Immigration.
