What are the steps to convert my O-A visa to a marriage visa in Thailand?

I’ve read all of the info I can find on here about moving off my O-A visa and obtaining a marriage visa. My understanding of my next steps is as follows - I hope someone who is more au fait than I with such matters can tell me if these steps are correct or not.

1. Leave Thailand without a re-entry stamp to void the O-A visa extension that I currently hold.

2. Apply at Thai Embassy (probably Penang or KL) for a 90 day Non-Imm O visa based on marriage (this I believe needs: Thai marriage certificate, my passport and wife’s Thai ID, copies of divorce certificates from prior marriages). My wife will be with me, so no need for a letter from her. (QUESTION - what evidence is needed about my having adequate income/funds in a Thai bank at this point?)

3. Return to Thailand and within 90 days apply at my local Immigration Office for a 12 month extension of the O visa based on marriage. I guess that Immigration will tell me what I need to provide as evidence of a sincere relationship + finances at this point?

What is the reason you decided to use the thai consulate in KL to get the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage?

There are far more "user friendly" thai consulates that will issue that visa without any proof of funds. You need to show proof of funds in KL for a Non-O visa

I followed up more on your suggestions Tod - so yes, decided to go to HCMC (not Hanoi as I had erroneously written). I know Savannaket does them too - but I want to avoid a long drive/bus trip from CM. I can fly direct to HCMC.

Thanks Tod - I wasn’t worried about funds because I have enough in my bank account - and I believe only Hanoi does the no money visas? I could be wrong, and if there are more interesting places to go than KL I would!

For the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur:

First action is visit their website, specially this page:

******************************************************************
*****
-Visa.html

On the bottom you find this text:

Requirements for each visa applicant may vary.

If you travel on a passport of the country in this list, please click here.

For holders of other countries’ passports, please click here.

Please follow up their advice or you wil end up with incorrect information.

After you're sure about your passport you click on click here and the list with visa will show up.

Choice the visa that you want to apply for.

Print out the check list and application form, fill it all in and sign these documents

Then click on the tiny url to make an appointment, make sure you use the correct visa option:

*************************************************************

If you made the appointment click on this link:

********************************************************************************************************************

and make an appointment using Visa Collection for the next working day.

Then it is just, visit, turn in the documents and this Embassy is known as straight forward, if all documents as asked on their check list are there, the visa will be handed out.
