Tod Daniels Robert Lagas I need your valuable advice and confirmation of these steps to convert my non B to a non O for marriage...

I'm a UK citizen married to a Thai wife. I currently work in Bangkok on a non B with extension of stay which I report every 90 days.

My employment may end soon and I want to confirm the steps to get from current non B extension to non O marriage. Can you kindly check these steps are correct?......

1) Take employment termination letter to ministry of labour and cancel my work permit

2) Go to CW immigration, cancel my ext of stay and apply for 7 days extension

This is where I'm confused, despite researching on multiple posts and on Google....

3) Either head overseas to a Thai embassy eg HCMC and apply for 1 year multiple entry non O visa (I understand HCMC don't ask for financials as per their requirements list)

if funds are required somewhere down the process.....my Thai wife will transfer 400,000 to my SCB thai account but it will not reach 2 months at the point I apply at HCMC. I have got over 3 months of monthly wages over 40,000 but I'm unsure if they will count this if my non b and work permit is voided

Or can I stay within Thailand and apply for 1 year Non O at CW provided I meet financial and other requirements?

Now if you don't have the money in a thai bank account in your name only for the 2 months BEFORE you switch reasons for extensions you're out of luck and you won't be able to do it at Chaengwattana OR any immigration office.

So just cancel your current extension based on employment, exit the country and buy a 90 day Non-O visa from either Savannakhet Lao or HCMC Vietnam. Then come in get stamped in for 90 days, get your money seasoned the requisite time and apply for the yearly extension that way

As usual Tod is succinct and accurate with variations for unknowns....

if you don't mind, one more question. I was due to fly out to Hong Kong for Xmas next week. I know the Thai embassy is closed there 25 & 26 but in your experience do you know of HK being a difficult place to get the 90 day non O? Maybe I need to change my plane ticket and spend Xmas in HCMC instead! Thanks

Okay, Jason Matthews you are confusing getting an EXTENSION based on marriage inside tthe country with getting a Non-O visa based on marriage outside the country

Lets go thru this step by step what you can do to get the year extension inside the country (IF you have the 400K baht seasoned the full two months before you apply to switch your extension reason.

FIRST get all the documentation required to apply for a yearly extension of stay based on being married to a thai <- which most likely will entail you and your thai wife going to the immigration office and getting the hand out that lists the requirements.

Make sure your 400K baht is seasoned the 2 months BEFORE you are go to try to do this

Take your employment termination paper AND the proof you cancelled your work permit to the immigration office cancel your current extension based on employment IMMEDIATELY apply for a NEW yearly extension based on marriage (by meeting the requirement) You should get a 30 day under consideration stamp and then you go back on that date and get the year extension inked into your passport

Thanks all. I have the info I need so I'll get the tick list from CW as advised and go from there. If I don't meet requirements for whatever reason I'll get the non O at HCMC (I tick their requirements list as per their website). Thanks again and happy Christmas to you all ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

PLEASE, giving advice is nice BUT...... There is no need to get every piece of paper with your name on it certified, translated, stamped by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local police, notaries and who every you think is important enough to stamp.. NO, you still do not need the attendance records of your kindergarten classes, signed and notarized.

There are two ways to get an Extension of Stay: Hire a big truck, a few strong guys and bring each and every document with your name on it, make sure you have at least 10 copies of each one and tell every one, that this is required by yourself.

OR

Visit the Immigration Office, ask the latest and updated hand out with requirements, tick the list when copy made or pictures are printed.

Stop with this endless listing of documents and telling what ever Immigration Officer wants to see you bring.

You could potentially apply for a 90 day non-o in country which can then be extended. But do the funds not have to come from overseas for this?
Tod *********
They do NOT need to get a 90 day Non-O visa because they already were on some type of Non-Immgrant visa (a non-B) and all they're doing is changing the reason for their extension from employment to one based on marriage.
Tod *********
that is NOT correct :/

This could potentially be of help - I did the exact same thing in Chiang Rai a few years ago, and also didn't quite have time for the funds to season in the bank account. If you have a thai child, they let me use a 60 day extension for the purposes of 'visit thai child' in between the work extension and the marriage extension as a spacer while the funds seasoned. When that 60 days was up I made the switch to a marriage extension, by which time the funds were seasoned
Robert *******
Even when you do not have a Thai child you can apply for the 60 days Extension of Stay based on visiting your Thai wife
Robert *******
First visit your local Immigration Office to ask the hand out with requirements for an Extension of Stay based on married to a Thai National.

Get all these requirements done, make sure you do not miss one.

Cancel the Extension of Stay based on working

Apply directly for a NEW Extension of Stay based on married with a Thai National

if you apply for the 7 days refusal of extension you will HAVE to leave the country

thanks. I understand that. My last point is asking if I can stay in Bangkok and avoid leaving, however. Appreciate the help ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
