Hi guys quick question. I am a British citizen, I have 60 day tourist visa. I have a thai wife so how do I go about changing this tourist visa to a non o visa when I arrive in Thailand without proving finances? And if I do need to prove finances how long does it take to change over? Will be in chonburi province.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process to convert a 60-day tourist visa to a Non-O visa in Thailand typically requires proof of finances. While there are suggestions to conduct a visa run to Savannakhet, Laos for a Non-O visa (which doesn't demand stringent financial proof), it's important to note that applying for a Non-O from within Thailand will likely necessitate income verification. The application process may involve getting a notarized income letter from the UK consulate, which can take about 2 weeks for consideration at the immigration office in Chonburi.

if I were him i'd get to Thailand with tourist visa then when that's about to end (2-3 weeks) just go to Savannakhet, Laos

okay, you could indeed go from a tourist visa to a 90 day Non-O and then to yearly extension of stay at the Chonburi immigration office without having to bank 400K baht.

Seeing as you're a brit it would take you applying by mail to the UK consulate here in Bangkok and getting a notarized paper from them stating you get over 40K baht a month in pension or income. Unfortunately for you, the brit consulate DOES require people submit proof of their income before they write the letter.

As
@St***
, said once you apply for the Non-O at the immigration office it would go under consideration for 2 weeks and then you'd go back and get it inked into your passport along with a new 90 day stamp. Then when there are 30 days or less left on that stamp you'd go back to the immigration office (with another letter of income from your consulate) and apply for a yearly extension of stay

@Ji***
, you'll skate thru passport control with that year-long, multi-entry Non-O from Savannakhet..

The thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City also offers it with the same criteria. Marriage certificates, thai i/d of your wife and her thai house book listing.

Thanks Tod. I do fly back and forth as I have a business back home and proving what I earn isn't an issue it's just I like to keep my bank accounts private lol. So the Non o visa may be a better option for me at the moment.

You should know that the year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa you get in Savannakhet requires you to exit/re-enter the country every 90 days for the validity of the visa (one year from the date it's issued). that's how that visa works.

It is a good alternative for people who for one reason or another don't want to or can't meet the financial requirements to get the visa and extension inside the country at the immigration office.

No mate. I went a month ago. I'm actually surprised here why no one told you already in this group about just going to savannakhet in Laos to get that visa once your tourist visa near the end.

Is savannakhet still not requiring proof of finances

Just get to Thailand then go savannakhet in Laos for the none o multiple entry visa based on marriage with Thai then come back into Thailand with a 15 months visa

You cant do it in Thailand without proving finances. It goes under 'consideration' for 2 weeks after you meet the requirements
