Does anyone have any recent experience obtaining a "residency certificate" from Immagration? How formal of a lease agreement are they looking for?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent experiences regarding obtaining a residency certificate from Immigration in Thailand indicate varying requirements based on province. Generally, obtaining a TM30 form is essential, and for some locations, a formal lease agreement might not be necessary. One user highlighted that in Hua Hin, a simple one-year leasing contract sufficed, along with scans of passports and landlord ID. The timeline for obtaining the certificate can be quite quick, often within days once the necessary documentation is provided.
We obtained the residence certificate from Hua Hin immigration office. The process was easy & fast. We have a one year leasing contract. On which there are scans of our passports as well as the ID of landlord. I don’t know if it’s considered formal. We are on 60 day visa exemption status (arrived in Thailand on

I've never needed anything more than a TM30 to get a residence certificate in 3 different provinces.
Each province is different, but have you actually been to your office to find out the requirements?
