Does anyone have any recent experience obtaining a "residency certificate" from Immagration? How formal of a lease agreement are they looking for?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a residency certificate from Immigration in Thailand can vary depending on the province. General requirements often include a TM30 and may not necessarily require a formal lease agreement; some respondents successfully obtained their certificates with a simple leasing contract or while staying in temporary accommodations like Airbnb. Experiences shared include needing copies of passports, visa stamps, and sometimes having the landlord officially file the TM30. The processing times also differ, with some offices mailing the completed certificate and others providing it on the same day.

In Chiang Mai last month, TM30 and passport copy including visa stamp. Be prepared that they don't give it to you that day. They MAIL it to you, and it's exactly 3 weeks. (They point to a calendar and show you, plus a receipt with the 3 week date marked on it.)

Bangkok immigration didn’t require any lease and I’m staying in an Airbnb but the copy of the tm30 wasn’t good enough. But the lady in immigration took my copy of the tm30 and called the Airbnb owner and walked her through what was needed. I did need copies of passport, photo (I think) Visa and visa entry stamp. They mailed it to me which apparently now they are no longer doing and you must return to pick up.

We obtained the residence certificate from Hua Hin immigration office. The process was easy & fast. We have a one year leasing contract. On which there are scans of our passports as well as the ID of landlord. I don’t know if it’s considered formal. We are on 60 day visa exemption status (arrived in Thailand on

Samut Prakan last week. They did not require the lease but the landlord did have to have lodged a correctly completed TM30.

I've never needed anything more than a TM30 to get a residence certificate in 3 different provinces.

Each province is different, but have you actually been to your office to find out the requirements?
