Hi guys, Miles here. Can someone please tell me which city is the easiest for foreigners to get the Residence Certificate? I am planning on applying for this certificate as soon as I land in Thailand so definitely trying to avoid that 90-day notification requirement.

Any information is appreciated. Thank you all!.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the process of obtaining a Residence Certificate in Thailand, especially regarding the 90-day reporting requirement for foreigners. Participants clarify that one must typically stay for at least 180 days at a location to qualify for the residence certificate. The TM30 form is necessary, and servicing immigration offices can assist with this process. Some commenters mention specifics about various cities, noting that Bangkok no longer requires a 90-day report to obtain the certificate, though it is essential to be registered with a valid TM30.

There is NO OFFICE anymore that has the 'must file a 90 day report' before you get a certificate of residence

Bangkok USED to require it, they do not any more. All you need is a valid TM30 showing you're registerered as staying in Bangkok and you can apply for a certificate of residence at the main immigration office at Chaengwattana Government Complex

You apply for a residence certificate at the immigration office where you have a TM30 filed. If you are staying at a hotel they should do that for you otherwise your landlord or the owner of your accommodation should do it

ok 👌🏽 yeah that’s what I read too just wanted to make sure it’s valid. Once the landlord has filed the TM 30, I’ll just need a copy of that (not the original) and bring it to the immigration office correct?

Having a residence certificate does 🚫 NOT mean you don't have to file a 90 day report when you are in Thailand for 90 days.

yes we understand. However, this certificate is needed for some important tasks like applying for a Thai license, some embassies need it as well.. Earlier, Bangkok immigration will only issue it, if you had a 90 days report with them. It means no residence certificate unless you spend 90 days in Thailand. Glad it changed.

There are only a few ways to get out of doing a 90 day report

Depart Thailand for an international trip every <89 days forever

LTR visa it’s once annually

Permanent Residence you can apply after 3 years working a Thai job or your own company in which you make the mandatory monthly salary

Get Thai citizenship

That’s it

Good luck

DTV_Begpacker I think you are missing his question. He wants a Residence Certificate without waiting to do a 90 day report. Not that he does not want to do the 90 day report. This could be for a driving licence or to buy a vehicle

I think a license from your home country plus an IDP and a proper residence certificate are enough for a foreigner to register a motorcycle in Thailand from what I read online

The only way to avoid 90-days notification is traveling out of the country before 90 days. Residence certificate has nothing to it.

Anonymous participant 521 They don't want to avoid it altogether, but they don't want to go to a office that requires one before they give out a Residence Certificate.

Lol. You definitely need to spend at least 180 days in one place to get the certificate of residence. Do you think you could get it anywhere just after staying 1 week there?

Any immigration office will prepare such a document for you, but you need to be serious.

Anonymous participant 521 complete nonsense, my local office issues them once a TM30 is on file. No waiting period.

Anonymous participant 521 Jomtien used to give them out once TM30 registered. No 180 day stay was ever required. Max was a 90 day report.

Anonymous participant 521 This is false.

Some offices had a rule that you had to have done a 90 day report.

But now most seem to be ok with just a filed TM30.
