TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a residence certificate for purchasing a car in Thailand, you need to visit your local immigration office. Some users suggest that hiring an agent can simplify the process, especially if you're not comfortable dealing with immigration yourself. You'll need to provide proof of residence, such as a long-term lease, and it's wise to check with the immigration office for specific requirements. Processing times may vary, and some individuals have noted that the process can be cumbersome or vary based on visa type.

Just visited Chamchuri Square, its not possible

for my visa (DTV) or my wife's type A to get a residence certificate. We have to brave the Gov Complex, which I can't be bothered to do, anyone know an agent who can help?

Go to your local immigration office, that is the only way to get one.

I used an agent, she arranged everything. If you have your IDL. it's totally AOK.

Unless you're patient and love dealing with immigration, the best way is to use an agent.

@Duncan ******
mine took 25 minutes, it would have been less if the Officer had seen an online TM30 before

@Graham *****
not all immigration offices are that efficent - it takes 2-3 weeks in Chiang Mai unless you pay.

@Duncan ******
but you didn't say that up front

You’ll need to prove your residence in some way. The requirements can vary. Long term lease is sufficient. Visit your immigration and ask for their requirements for issuing a residence certificate if you don’t have substantial documentation. An agent can assist you if you have problems getting one yourself.

you need at least one 90 stamp from check in and a type O visa or OA if gotten from out of Thailand

@Ken ******
No, this varies as said. Previously they demanded one 90 days report in Bangkok to get a RC, but now it’s not formally required. I’ve got several RC’s myself only on the previous 30 days visa exemption, a couple of times with help of an agent.

i am talking in hua, hin, I just got mine and they required a 90 day stamp. It wasn't even a 90 day. Stamp, it was just an immigration check in when I moved from Nakhon Sawon. Like you said every office is different.

@Ken ******
Yes, thank you for your update regarding Hua Hin👍

I do have a long term lease, TM30 and work permits.

Technically it’s free, but they charge for ’express’ service , don’t bother asking for a receipt….:-)

if you have a work permit that means you probably use the immigration office at Chamchuri Square right? When you go and ask for the residence certificate they will tell you that it will come in the mail and take about a week. Ask if there is any way to get it today. They'll point you to a gentlemen standing nearby who will take your paperwork, 1300 baht, and ask you to come back in an hour.

Then it should be quite straightforward.

depends which office and if you are willing to pay. I think I paid 200 baht at Hua Hin and got it within about 30 minutes.

I'm in Bangkok, I would be willing to pay

@Simon ********
I paid 10 baht in Bangkok.

But since you’re in the country for more than 24h without a tm30 you will be fined, most likely 800b, but can be up to 10k baht.
