Hello!

My husbands new contract job does not arrange visa for myself and our son. I have a link stating the documents that we need but can someone with experience send me a link confirming what’s needed for a “Non O for family stay”? We live in Sukhumvit and would we have to go to immigration near the airport or is there a closer alternative?

Thank you so much for your help!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks assistance with obtaining a Non-O visa for themselves and their son, as their husband's job does not assist with the visa process. They inquire about the necessary documents and the closest immigration office, leading to responses from the community that suggest visiting the Chaengwattana immigration office for guidance on visa requirements. The conversation reveals specifics about the 30-day visa-exempt entry, the need for an extension to apply for the Non-O visa, and advice on handling the immigration process effectively.

, believe me I'm not tryin to poke fun at you, I'm doing my best to make a really dry, and sometimes confusing topic interesting enough so it clicks with you :O :) The more you know what you're here on, etc the better equipped you are to deal with immigration people.

Definitely GO get the 30 day extension on your current 30 day visa exempt entry stamps <- no need to wait until they're almost expiring because the 30 days is ADDED to your current expiration date

Then ask for the hand out on how to apply for an in country Non-O visa based on being a "trailing spouse" <- meaning you are getting a Non-O visa because you're married to a foreigner who legally works here on a Non-B/work permit.

Good Luck, please realize I meant no disrespect in my comments to you and am just trying to get you up to speed so you can navigate this and push your own paper at the immigration office.

@Tod ********
just gave you the exact first-aid advice that you needed:)(a big applause for the wise man)

you need to buy time first.

Believe me, Thailand visa won’t come in that easy way.

But as long as you prepare it well, you will get what you want in the end.

Cheers!

if we don’t have 15 days left, do you know if I can file for an extension one day, then return on another day to switch to the non-O? Can I do both on the same day? Ugh, this is such a pain!!!

😩💦

Thanks for your help.

We’ve never done this before, the company has always handled it, that’s why I’m asking a million questions in the group..no need to make fun lol! This sh*t is confusing. No we did not extend the “visa exempt entry” yes, catchy name. Thanks for your help. I will pay to extend that for the cheap fee...
Tod *********
Be that as it may, DID you already go to the immigration office and extend that 30 day visa exempt entry by 30 days like you are allowed to for 1900baht?
Tod *********
@Tené ***************
Umm, yeah, that's NOT a tourist visa :/

There is no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa on arrival :O

That's a 30 day visa exempt entry <- which means you showed up here without having bought ANY visa from a thai consulate before you came here and were stamped in for free for 30 days without a visa <- hence the catchy name "visa exempt entry"

@T**
, the most recent visa when we returned from Malaysia was a 30 day tourist visa on arrival.
Tod *********
@Tené ***************
, okay so you came in on a 60 day tourist visa?
Tené ****************
ORIGINAL POSTER
American and our last visa was a tourist visa.
Tod *********
and what is your nationality and what type of stamp are you in here on now?
Tod *********
@Bernd *******
Then you should take your wife and child out to the Chaengwattana Immigration office and see if you can get the hand out that lists the requirements to get in country Non-O visas for your wife and child.

I know for a fact they will need at least 15 days of stay left on their current entry stamp (a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa or a 30 day extension off one of those) to apply for the in country 90 day Non-O visa.

The section that issues in country Non-Immigrant Type visas is Section C-1 out there.
Tod *********
Where did your husband go to get his visa?
Bernd ********
The company I work for sponsored it via an external company. But they’re too expensive to do it for my wife and child.
Tod *********
There is only ONE immigration office in Bangkok that most people use and it's at the Chaengwattana government complex.

that is where I would go all the time.

That’s what I figured. Thanks!

@Tené ***************
IF your husband did not get his visa /extension issued at the one stop center in Cham Churi you CANNOT use that office for your visas.

You need to use the one at Chaengwattana

@Tené ***************
there is a one stop shop at Chamchuri Square but only for specific categories of people.

@T**
thanks, yes this where my husband went but I “heard” there was a one stop shop that was closer where we could go..probably misinformed.
Tod *********
The place you need to start is with your husbands employer :/ They should be helping you arrange to see if you can get the Non-O visa inside the country OR if you have to leave the country and get it from a thai consulate in a nearby country.

@T**
