What are the requirements for obtaining a Non-O visa for my child born in Thailand and can he use a visa on arrival?

Hello everyone,

I am getting mixed information related to Non-O visas as am planning to apply for my two years old son.

I have a Non-B and my wife has a Non-O, we are both Mexican nationals living in Thailand. Our kid was born here back in 2020 and he has a Mexican passport as well but not a Thai visa for the moment.

Does anyone knows the list of required documents he will need in the case we visit another country and then come back to Thailand?

Mexicans are eligible for VOA, is it possible he get a tourist visa on arrival and then convert it to a Non-O once we are in Thailand?

The information provided on the Thai Embassy in Singapore website is more focused on foreigners married to a Thai national and i am not sure the requirements are the same. They are not replying my emails.

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information regarding the process to obtain a Non-O visa for their two-year-old son, considering they are both Mexican nationals living in Thailand. They inquire about necessary documents for re-entry into Thailand after a trip abroad, the possibility of obtaining a tourist visa on arrival for their son, and converting it to a Non-O visa. A comment clarifies that a visa on arrival can't be converted to other visa types within Thailand and suggests obtaining a tourist visa externally or letting the child overstay, as children under the age of 15 cannot be fined and won't face bans.

that's not gonna work even if you exit/re-enter. A Visa On Arrival cannot be converted to any other type of visa inside the country, you'd have to go to a thai consulate in another country and get a real single entry tourist visa which would stamp him in for 60 days and then you could apply for the in country conversion to a Non-Immigrant Visa at the immigration office for 2000baht

Conversely you could just let them overstay ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Which sounds worse than it is. Children under 15 cannot be fined for overstay and children under 18 cannot be banned for it. SO there is no penalty for just letting them overstay. I know foreigners here with children on many years of overstay who have no issues at all here.

thank you for your kind response.

So is not possible to get a Non-O overseas and must necessarily apply for a tourist visa and then convert it?

In case of overstay for children under 15, it may be any issue in the future if traveling abroad and then coming back?

all I said was that a visa on arrival can't be converted to another visa type inside the country. You either get a tourist visa and come back OR as you just pointed out, get the 90 day Non-O visa issued from a consulate <- IF you can find one nearby that will do it.

Nope kids under the age limits I outlined have no issues with overstay, exiting/re-entering, getting visas, etc
