What could cause a rejection due to the wrong passport type in a Thai visa application?

Sep 7, 2025
How can passport type be wrong? I am like 100% sure I selected ordinary passport. There is no other details in the email or thayevisa portal where I applied, nor can I see my application form. I applied in Berlin, Germany as a resident.

What could be wrong?

What I submitted:

* permanent work contract stating the work location is anywhere (unsigned as I received it through email)

* last investment broker account statements stating more than enough funds

* travel passport

edit: upon request they updated me that I indeed selected wrong document type so it must have been some mistake with the page changing my inputs upon save/refresh.

They also mentioned other documents are ok.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user encountered an issue with a Thai visa application where they accidentally selected the wrong passport type. Although they were certain they selected an ordinary passport, an update from the consulate confirmed the mistake. The user requested advice on possible implications and steps to correct this error. The discussion revealed that errors in the passport section could lead to rejection without explanation and emphasized the importance of ensuring all documents meet specified requirements, particularly regarding the funds being in a personal bank account rather than from investment accounts.

that website is famous for changing randomly things when you reload the page or when you click back or whatever. It's really possible that you check normal passport but then you reloaded or went back to check it again leading it to move to another type of passport. As the other folks said, the best is always to keep a screenshot but even with that, it won't change anything cuz the application will never get refunded.

I don’t think investment accounts are allowed. Needs to be savings or checkings only.

Sounds like if they didn't ding you for the passport type thing they would've for the brokerage account. The money has to be cash in a personal account. No mutual funds, crypto, etc. You need to move some of that mutual fund $$ into a cash personal account. But before you apply again, search in this group for posts about the consulate you are applying through to confirm how many months of seasoning is required. Good luck.

It is explicit explained at the Thai Embassy website, that ALL mistakes in the passport section will lead to rejection.

NO EXPLANATION WILL BE GIVEN.

The 1st screenshot is accurate, people from those countries should apply from their home countries.

The 2nd one is complete nonsense. If you just search on this group there are Nigerians who got the DTV, as well as people from Bangladesh.

I know the rejection says wrong passport type, but you stated broker accounts for the funds, and there have been many reports where these are not accepted. The funds need to be in your personal bank account.

is it possible they would say its passport when it was about brokerage account?

what if the brokerage account IS your personal account ? does it need to be specifically in a savings account ? what if it's in mutual funds through a brokerage account under your personal name .. is that acceptable ?

Anonymous participant it has to be a personal account account. Even if you "consider " your brokage account a personal account, they do not.

Read the requirements, of course it has to be personal account, not brokerage, not compagny, not investment.

It’s the individual person who apply for visa, not any kind of compagny.

it's clearly not a company. I have 2 accounts.. a savings account and a brokerage account at the same bank. So would i have to transfer everything to my savings, then wait the 3 months ? I was going to apply within the next 4 weeks. so that would change things.

The money has to be readily available in a personal account ( not compagny ).

It’s a deposit to guarantee that if you need hospitalcare ( or other sudden big expense) , you can pay for your self immediately before treatment.

It should not in any way be connected to your work, except salary transfers.

yes, understood..I am just concerned about the length of time of time it needs to be there before applying.

If it is in the wrong type of account, then you will get problems no matter how long the 500.000+ Baht has been in the account.

And as with most DTV it is depending on which Embassy will be used.

I screenshot everything through the process, including the final completed applicant details page, I have a complete record of my submission details. I suspect you were sloppy and didn't triple check everything.

Anonymer Teilnehmer I also had a cancellation due to wrong passport number. And they also stated that in my mail. So in your case might not be the passport number. Maybe you chose accidentally 'diplomatic' passport or something?

Anonymous participant generally speaking it's a document that allows you to travel when for some reason you are unable to get a passport. I'd guess it's most likely for refugees or asylum seekers
