applied for etc visa, used agent, 800k baht in bank account. applied for 6 months cooking classes.

they approved but switched it to a 6 month multiple entry visa? I want a dtv visa what is this bs. what can I do? any suggestions?

spent 12 days here for this to be the result super depressed about it. They were very interrogative and strict during the interview.

Edit: does anyone know how reapplying works and any tips and if I should do it elsewhere?
Summary so far
The user applied for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) to study a 6-month cooking class in Thailand but was given a 6-month multiple entry tourist visa instead. They express frustration over the rejection and difficulty in the application process, feeling interrogated during their interview and questioning their agent's competency. Comments from the community suggest that the visa application was likely affected by the short duration of the course, as recent guidelines indicate that longer courses (9-12 months) are viewed more favorably for such visas. Suggestions for potential reapplication and the experiences of others with similar applications are discussed.

Ignore all the negative comments. The DTV is NOT a Digital Nomad Visa, it is a Destination Thailand Visa & it’s for remote workers, Thai Cultural activities, medical stays, etc. The requirements are less stringent on soft power courses as there is no way anyone would take Thai cooking, Muay Thai, etc. for 5 years. Thailand is trying to foster a better relationship with foreigners who value Thai culture & history.

As the law/guidelines reads currently there shouldn’t be any reason you were denied.

But you can stay 6 months for the classes right? What's the issue here? I don't think DTV offers any/much additional benefits than the variant you got.

Well firstly, your 6 month soft power course doesn’t make you a Digital Nomad. You don’t or at least didn’t show that you work Remote and ummm, you got 6 month Visa for a 6 month course.

What straight or common sense logic would grant 5 years for a 6 month course.

That's annoying considering the metv only gives you 60 entry with a possible 30 day extension before you need to leave and re enter. I'd be speaking to the agent you paid for an explanation. It's been stated so many times in the last couple months that gyms and cooking schools have gotten into discussions with authorities that they're looking for 9-12 months minimum and that 6 months will have a high chance of not qualifying for a DTV. And then the weekly posts since the end of last year of people getting the METV when applying with a 6 month course.

Important to know for the sake of others if there is an agent out there who isn't up to speed with the recent recommendations on minimum course length. Not all posts are genuine. Why apply with a 6 months course when there's been weeks worth of warnings that 9 months is now considered the minimum in order to qualify for a DTV. For a long time prior to that, there have been postings about Multiple Entry Tourists Visas being issued instead and Embassies pocketing the 50% excess fee paid. Anonymous poster appears to be blaming his Visa Agent who's also anonymous. Issa Compass are highly recommended (even group experts agree) with many posts mentioning their platform fee of only 5,000 THB. They guarantee success or the whole of your money refunded. Alternatively, they offer one free resubmission at an alternative Embassy. If anonymous participant had applied through them this scenario couldn't exist. Poster uses certain words and a recognisable writing style (at least it is to myself).

They have assessed the you purpose for staying in Thailand!could be reached with another more appropriate visa, and given you that, instead of denying your application totally, whereby you would have lost all of the application fee.

At least you got a visa that fits your purpose of a 6 month cooking class, so be happy with that.

You can not get another visa, until the one granted to you has expired.

You should NEVER use an agent, for a visa that is designed to be applied for by the applicant himself.

Applying the same places as all the other wannabee longtime tourist, is another big mistake, instead of applying in your homecountry, whereby the bulk of your documentation probably originates from, som your homecountry Thai Embassy would be the best to understand you documentation.

Do a proper research by reading the group THOROUGHLY before applying, then you would have know all of the reasons for denial.

You can not always get what you want, then you have to live with what you can get.

- under the METV on arrival you will be issued a Permit to stay 60 days.

You can apply once in Thailand for this to be extended by 30 days for a fee, after which you must leave. You may then re-enter and get another Permit to stay 60 days.

The 6 months refers to the time period (window) the METV is valid from/to, and not the period of time you may stay - this is determined by the Immigration Officer and Permit issued.

You don’t know how to seperate politics from reality. Most Americans are here in opposition to Trump and the harm he’s doing globally and to make a general statement “they hate Americans” is asinine. Many Americans here are on DTV, Thai immigration is cracking down on visas especially the DTV, which is why hism was denied and turned into a METV. @ OP next time find a class that’s 9-12 months and you’ll be good.

6 month cooking class is the issue & they decided you only need a 6 month Visa , seems reasonable. I think most successful applicants are looking at 9 & probably 12 month courses now. Given the METV multiple entry tourist visa which can with planning get you up to 8 months stay in Thailand with 2 simple BORDER BOUNCES.

From the type of questions you shared that they asked, it sounds like they possibly didn’t believe you were actually planning on participating in these trainings. If the agent’s information was anywhere on your paperwork, that might have further negatively impact their perception. Then your nervousness, and potential stumbling over the details of the training only reinforced their original thoughts. Do you actually know the cooking course and if they have had other DTV applicants? What is their name? Others have started to mention that they are less likely to accept 6 months of training and therefore you may need to sign up for 9+ months

A lot of sad pathetic cretins in this group, nothing new. Ignore them.

Sorry you’ve had to go through that. It could be from what you’ve said the commitment to the course only being 6 months considering it’s a 5 year multiple entry visa.

Did you make a strong case for what you intend to do when the class is over?

Did you show strong proof of funds. Ideally if you can it’s better to try and apply elsewhere and apply without an agent. At least you got something though vs an outright rejection. Hope you get it in the end. Seems like they’re just becoming more and more strict.

Have you applied from USA? Many people reported that they got multiple reentry TR visa or rejected many reasons financial stability proof of stable remote income or not enough savings ( minimum requirements like 500k is still minimum, and they often approve who has stable income or big amount of savings )
Alex ****
Alex ****
Everything recommend 12 months

But need to understand simple Thai logic

6 months 500,000 no regular proof income or proof funds sometimes works same way as 9 months or even 12 months. More longer course more stronger Thai embassy expectations about farang financial stability they don't want poor farangs or who possible can work locally with DTV visa.

Longer course longer stay more strict control about financial stability.

Sorry to hear you got denied. You might try reaching out to the issuing Embassy/Consulate and ask if they can provide any guidance on why you didn’t receive the Visa you requested. Nothing is guaranteed to come out of it and most likely will not even get a response, at least you will have asked. I personally did my cooking class myself for the DTV out of the DC Embassy and got approved without incident. I did my own research on the school and found that they issue a Diploma at the end of your required classes. In my case the minimum # of weeks for classes was 2 weeks over a 6 month period. The school letter to the Embassy/Consulate is crucial as they inform of how many hours/weeks you will be required to study. Don’t go with any school who doesn’t state that your classes will be over a 6 month period or longer. I didn’t have any interview but maybe because I was in America at the time of application. Good luck next time if you decide to reapply.
ExcellentRa***********
ExcellentRa***********
If you use agency, make sure you know what course and what school you are going to. Study the document to make interview answers solid and credible. Be sure to prove why you are committed to this programme. Never say things like i cant remember the name of the school or give vague reasons on why this course, why this school.

Many people use agencies but they dont know what they submit. Or they dont show their genuine interests in or commitment to the course
