TLDR : Answer Summary
The community is discussing recent updates concerning the single-entry tourist visa issued by the Thai Embassy in London. Topics include the £12,000 financial requirement for the visa, the associated quarantine regulations, and potential changes in rules at other embassies, particularly in Oslo. Many express concerns about the financial requirements being unrealistic for most people. There are also inquiries about the visa duration of 60 days and the option for extensions. Participants share opinions on the economic implications of such policies and discuss personal experiences with the application process.

How long does this visa last for?

You have 3 months to enter once issued, you will then get a 60 day stamp on arrival, with a possible option to extend (but again, not confirmed yet).
Wow seems crazy you need that much cash in your account for what could be such a short stay. Cheers for answering me tho bro appreciate it

balance of 12.8k in a current account for 6 months is a lot of lost interest or dividends... 😑 punished if you're smart and have your savings working for you... 🤔
Hi, can anyone confirm how many days this would be for, 60 days? and if so is it possibel to re-new without doing border runs (which are impossible) / how many re-newals if possible, as much info as possible, thanks in advance
I wonder how much success they will have with this program. People with assets got to that point by making prudent financial decisions. It’s very dumb thinking to make very high dollar requirements because they think people with money will spend lots of money. Just because you have lots of money doesn’t mean you want to give it to greedy people. My personal decision is to never pay more than I think is fair. It also means not being asked to jump through too many hoops. Usually, the people who spend the most don’t have so much. For those people, traveling is a time to live a very large life. For people with lots of money it’s not necessary. They live big lives in their own countries every day. I think the appeal in this program is for desperate people who can find any way to beg, borrow or steal their way into Thailand.
only to the extent that arrivals from countries like the UK are more likely to infect staff or others they interact with on the flight, in the airport, or during quarantine, and/or to pass through quarantine infected but undetected with an extra-long incubation period (there have been cases of over 1 month of false negatives).

So my eldest son who wants to come with his wife and two adult children will have to have £51,200 in the bank for six months beforehand? Totally unviable for almost everyone. Typical lack of joined up thinking again!
There is not enough quarantine space for "everyone" but rather only a tiny fraction of the people who want to come to Thailand, so they have to prioritise somehow. It makes sense that one of the groups they are allowing in are tourists with plenty of money to spend to help the economy.

For a 60 day tourist visa the £12k rule is way over the top, I have that amount covered easily but I have probably had a few dips in the last 6 months due to running a business and needing to spend, but it always comes back in. I read from a comment elsewhere that oslo embassy is removing the requirement hopefully others will follow suit.
No joke. Many Thais are accustomed to logic of this type.

Yurek Hunt. I haven't looked into it, but I thought there was some allowance where they would accept ownership of real property in lieu of the money in the bank?
Nope, it's got to be money that's instantly accessable. They wont accept investment accounts that can take 'x amount' of days to to withdraw your money either.
. Ok. Seems a bit harsh for the 60 day tourist visa. I can understand the STV as it has the potential to kick out to nine months, they're trying to entice a more affluent type of tourist. It still might change.
don't be so arrogant. It's about fairness. There is also no regulation from other country that Thai citizens must have that much money in the past six month for holiday to other country !
. You confuse arrogance with truth. I state simple facts. You don't like what you hear so you blame the messenger. I didn't make up the rules. Every country has different rules and regulations relating to immigration. Fairness doesn't come into it. If people don't like the current rules the solution is simple.
what truth ? A country like Thailand need that much money for the past six month ?? what are you talking about ?? its not las vegas. No one will like the discrimination rule withouth good reason !
. I'm talking about the visa conditions. They are published by the Thailand government, not by me. I've already indicated that I believe they're a bit harsh, but give my thoughts as to why they're doing this. There are thousands of people in a financial position to get this visa, so I really don't think the minority who are complaining are going to worry the Thai government to any great extent.
the actual problem is that "the past six month". I never heard such rule in any institution. 3 months are the most but six months, i mean why ? you can make thousands of rule with thousands of idea. But this is unique.
. They're looking for financial stability. For long stay visas they look over 12 months, so it's typical Thai. Tourists used to have to bring 20,000 baht in cash. That was a silly rule, expecting people to carry large amounts of cash, but it's been dropped and replaced with the other.

Yurek Hunt. There's some hide their money in tin boxes buried in their gardens!
. You don't need to be a professor to work it out. Again, you are blaming the messenger. Thailand (not me) appear to be encouraging people with money who are going to spend big while they are here. How does that affect me? I won't see any of that money. It's a small attempt to start the international tourism economy. I'm not involved in the tourism industry. They are enticing the Chinese because China represents by far the bulk of their international tourists. They want the Chinese who have money. How have you come up with your theory that it's somehow connected with me, merely because I state these facts? A fact is a fact. You can twist it any way you want, but it remains a fact
. I think it's only the digital nomads with no money in the bank who are complaining! OK Like and Understand Your Answers But The Statement You WROTE Which i Cut and Pasted is as I Said Not Polite and Quite Condescending and Would Prefer Truth with a Little Bit of Compassion and Understanding
. Are you a digital nomad? Are you complaining? 😀. I'm sorry you're so butthurt over my comment, but it's pretty prevelant on social media at the moment!
Now i Understand Your Comment Thanks For The Reply No I'm An ex Offshore Worker For 30 Yrs That is Now Disabled to Work So Live Very Different From Before
Could be but there is also people who choose to invest and have portfolios of property etc. not everyone likes to camp on cash in the bank as its essentially dead money these days.
. That's true, but that's the visa requirement. If someone can't meet the criteria they don't get the visa. The Thais want to ensure that visitors can support themselves. Money tied up in property investments doesn't pay bills!
