What are the current requirements for obtaining a multi-entry tourist visa (METV) from the London Thai embassy?

Has anyone had recent dealings with the London Thai embassy regading a multi entry TV? Their website states they need bank statements showing £5000 for six months and employer's letter, amongst other stuff. Talking today to the embassy, the officer (she wouldn't give her name) said they only need bank statements to show the funds in situ for two months and no employers' letter needed. Can't say I trust this verbal advice so, I wondered if anyone has gained a METV recently on this basis. I fear booking flights and committing funds, only to get turned down for not meeting the stated criteria on the website.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a multi-entry tourist visa (METV) from the London Thai embassy has shown some discrepancies between the stated requirements on their website and recent experiences shared by applicants. Initially, the embassy's website mentions a requirement for bank statements showing funds of £5000 over six months and an employer's letter. However, recent applicants reported varying experiences, such as being able to secure the visa with only one bank statement showing the necessary funds for two months and without the employer's letter. There is uncertainty regarding the consistency of requirements, as some received their visas through postal applications despite the website's stipulations. It is recommended for applicants to verify their specific situation and consider gathering additional supporting documentation to avoid complications.

Just by means of an update, I did get a MTV without showing 6 months bank statements and I also did this by post, despite the website clearly stating that this was not possible. TIT lol. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

At this time, I wouldn't apply and not be able to supply the required documents as listed. We are seeing this in another thread.

The person you spoke to on the phone is likely not to be the same person dealing with the application. Hence they won't give names and put themselves in the frame.

i don't get it, people with funds don't need a job to holiday? .... conversely the majority of people with a real job can not go on 6 months holiday ???? why this?

I got a METV from London end of last year. first I showed 6 months of funds In a thai bank account, this was unacceptable had to be an account in my home country.. Then I showed 6 months in a UK Barclays account funds held in cash ISA, and this was also unacceptable. So I then had to get 6 months statement showing funds in a current account with linked ATM card... finally they accepted!

If it helps, when I went back to Barclays near the embassy they could only provide me with the six months statements printed from the ATM (that actually have a bank stamp on then) .. I suggest perhaps you try the same with HSBC so you have a set all identical showing the last 6months transactions including the transfer from ISA to standard account..

i see. Unfortunately when i receive my salary on the main account always transfer to the isa so i keep only 1..2 thousand on the main one. When i read i need to show minimum 5000 on the account i transfered it from isa to the main one but it was 22nd of the month. They(hsbc bank)do online bank statements on every 21st. So i basically missed 1 day that would show the transfered money on it. Then i went to hsbc(my bank) to request a bank statement and it takes them 4..5 working days to send me an original bank statement. The sent me a statement of isa and the main account and the main account doesnt show the transferred money. It would be shown on the 21st aug. But we are flying on 25. Tickets is already bought. And the beauty of this is that only the online statement is monthly. I only receive bank statement letter from the bank quarterly.

For this reason i requested a temporary bank statement from the bank the shows my balance of over 5000 but this statement looks different and im not sure this would be accepted.

i submitted my application in person, they informed me that both thai bank and ISA statements were not acceptable. I then found the local Barclays and requested 6 months of my main current account. I them returned and resubmitted.

I see. So when u first sent them the isa bank statement they rejected ur visa and u lost 150 pounds visa fee or they only informed u the bank statement isnt good for them so ur visa was pending until u provide the right statement?

no reason was given.. but they were very clear in that it had to be in my main/current account linked to my ATM card and overdraft facility. the ISA and secondary bank account I use for rental income was not acceptable.

@Ron ******
I learnt this the hard way.. Strangely funds where in a instant cash ISA (so immediately available). What they accepted was exactly the same account details just with the funds in a section linked to my ATM card and overdraft facility..

ISA accounts are not acceptable for any visa. It needs to be an account with instant cash access.

An ISA is not a bank account.

why did they not accept the isa account? Ive got bank statement of that as well. Im just applying for metv as well

Check Cardiff and Hull thai consulate requirements they may well be different.. they are for spouse Visa

I got an METV from London in April. I sent 1 bank statement showing I had 5k in my account. Didn't show 6 months worth of statements. Can't comment on the employer letter as I'm self-employed and sent last years tax return and that was sufficient.
