Hi all. Am in London trying to apply for a visa online and getting nowhere. They don't reply to emails and no one picks up the phone obvs. Anyone done it recently? Main question is do I need to shell out for the flights and hotel up front before I get the visa and the CofE? Also they are asking for site of visas I have used over the last twelve months (I haven't) and proof of ID of the person inviting me to stay in Thailand (am in a hotel). Just a simple 60 day tourist visa is all I need. Driving me nuts.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking assistance with applying for a 60-day tourist visa to Thailand from London, expressing frustration due to lack of communication from the embassy. They inquire if they need to book flights and accommodations upfront, mention issues with the documentation required, such as proof of past visas and inviting ID, and reference difficulties in navigating the online application process. Several comments provide helpful tips, including checking the Thai embassy UK website, applying for the Certificate of Entry (COE), and sharing personal experiences with the visa application and hotel reservations.

Start With

coethailand.mfa.go.th

Fill in online application you will need to upload passport also COVID 19 insurance which you’ll have to buy first about 5000 baht I bought AXA insurance

Once all filled in you can save and submit

Might take few days and then you’ll get confirmation

Then you can buy plane ticket and pay for asq or sand box hotel depend on which option you are using I am doing sand box Phuket you’ll have to upload these docs as well that’s as far as I’ve got hope that’s helpful

Not as difficult as you think just time consuming 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

To bring you guys up to speed I just got a reply to my email from the Thai embassy in London. I politely asked them for help in navigating the visa application page on their website (it makes absolutely no sense). Just as politely they replied advising me to keep my travel arrangements 'flexible' as they are unable to process visa applications if I don't upload the required documents. A complete joke. But wait! Two minutes later I received another email from the same department explaining in full detail precisely what it is I have to do to obtain both the visa and COE. I was ecstatic until I realised that the link they included in the email takes me to the online visa application site that makes no sense. And of course there were no specific answers to the issues I raised in the first place. It feels like the official attitude towards us here in the UK (or perhaps it's just me) is one of indifference sprinkled with contempt.

David, yesterday's announcement caught everyone by surprise. They have procedures to change, systems to update and then they have to communicate all this to embassies. I would suggest holding fire for a week.

I got my e-visa (TR) within 48 hours valid for 6 months. Needed flight and hotel. No need for insurance until applying for COE (within 2 weeks of travel).

For person inviting I just put hotel details

What did you upload for supporting docs no.9? Passport pages showing travel in last 12 months. I haven't been anywhere, do you know what I should upload? Thanks.

Agree the process could be better

I went through the COE process just under 2 months ago for the Phuket sandbox (not entirely smooth but not a terrible experience and Phuket is incredible).

is where I applied. Read the instructions, follow them carefully. It's definitely not as simple as travel used to be, but it is managable. I panicked slightly and ended up at a slightly less than ideal hotel, but the COE was approved very quickly and it was basically fine.

@Ben ******
hi can I ask after you submitted the first part was there a wait with no reference to your application? Then you got an email to proceed with further sections?
Ben *******
@Jason *******
I can't remember the exact timings (and I've cleared my inbox since) but I remember the steps that weren't entirely automatic were very quick (possibly within UK working hours though)
