Isnt the state of emergency usually extended by now? What happens if they end the state of emergency? I am looking to move to Bangkok via the sandbox program, but next week is holding me up on what to do.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the potential ending of the state of emergency in Thailand and its implications for expats looking to move to Bangkok via the sandbox program. Users express uncertainty about the timeline for Bangkok opening to tourists, with some mentioning that the state of emergency is likely to be extended, while others note that the end of the emergency decree will not significantly change current travel requirements. There is concern over the effectiveness of the sandbox program and what conditions will apply, particularly regarding quarantine measures and restrictions on movement.

Ending emergency decree makes no difference...

Transfers the COVID controls to the Thai Health Ministry.

No changes forseen with current requirements.

ending the decree will make a difference to users of this group especially those on the "covid extension" (or, as I prefer to call it... The CovEx")

The emergency decree is the instrument that facilitated the CovEx. Once the decree goes, then so does the CovEx. As for all the other restrictions in relation to travel and booze bans than youre most probably correct.

i dont quite understand the question? right now you have two choices ...

2 weeks ASQ in bangkok, or

2 weeks sandbox in phuket, after which you are free to travel to bangkok

i would not suggest making plans based on something that may or may not happen in the next month or 2 (ie direct bangkok arrivals without quarantine)

I'm struggling to understand whether this being extended or not would determine whether you move to Bangkok or not...?

It's not clear even what "opening up" would mean. End of curfew? open bars? open nightclubs?

I think the "opening up" to tourists just means they can arrive, like before. So, unless there is a "sandbox" allowing them to roam free from day 2 (like phuket)....

Is phuket considered "opened up"?

no, the when. If I book the sandbox and pay for it all. Then Bangkok opens up what would be the point.

Donna Olivares. The emergency decree has zero to do with ASQ and Sandbox.

Bangkok would use the same or very similar rules to Phuket , testing, approved transport from BKK, SHA+ hotels. It wont be a free for all, a long way from that.

the state of emergency doesn't dictate whether ASQ remains in place or not, which is what I think you're getting at here?

Target date on Bangkok sandbox is always moving to a future date at present. Last sniff of information available said November 1 if they get 70% vaccinated in time. Should be by Christmas 😂

they haven’t said anything about this one way or another, and either this or something similar will probably stay in effect until the country is back to at least almost normal measures

nothing in terms of health policy - it just means they're abolishing the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration and replacing it with something else.
