Will Thailand extend the COVID Extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community is debating whether Thailand will extend the COVID visa extension, with various opinions suggesting it might be extended due to the ongoing state of emergency, while others believe it's time for the country to learn to live with the virus. Some fear that, should it be extended, it may become increasingly difficult to obtain such extensions. The discussion reflects a mix of anticipation and frustration regarding the Thai government's vaccination approach and the impact of COVID-19 on foreign residents.

My bet is: Yes ... it is going to be extended yet again. Why? It was never a benevolent measure for those few people that actually were not able to get home (there we flights out of Thailand basically throughout the whole pandemic to almost all countries in the world). It was more an economically sensible measure, to provide a means for the large group of former border bouncers to remain longer than regularly visa would intend to. And while yes ... the time of its ending is likely nearer than before, even with some land borders opening now, there are still too many obstacles (especially on the Thailand side) for tourism and foreign spender numbers to get even close to what they were before. Thus, the (economic) incentive for COVID extensions remains. Having said that ... that is the thoughts of the ruling, educated class. The common immigration officer might be inclined to giving applicants an increasingly hard time. Meaning getting COVID extensions will get more difficult, especially for the less mentally gifted applicants, i.e. majority of foreigner around here. Well ... that was my guess. Thailand is always good for a surprise. So lets wait and see for two more days.

Thanks. I have my moments. Occasionally though ... I get kicked out (or at least banned for a while) for comments along those lines in groups like this.

The usual Covid Extension review period, before getting the additional 45 days, is only 15 days... Did you manage to get any precision on whether you are on a Review period and got the 60 Day Covid Extension or not?

Even if they decide to extend it, every time more people will get denied their extensions.

Do not count on staying here on that extension for long term!

The decree is to keep the protestors off the streets prior to the election in May. Covid is coincidental.

Why would they? At these stage everyone is opening their borders. Even Myanmar has. No need for it anymore.

they just extended the state of emergency period. Which implies covid is still an emergency. Therefore, likely to be extended. BUT this is the same government that still can't decide Songkran should be water-free or not yet
