Currently in thailand from usa, I know nobody knows when or how the borders/airports are going to open. Im starting to question my plan (which is to stay on amensty another 6 weeks and SEE what happens). My question/issue, if no amnesty and no borders runs, are we all going home at the same time? GIant rush to the airport? i see no other choice...anyone else?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the uncertainty of visa amnesty and the reopening of Thailand's borders post-Covid-19. Many expats express concerns about the potential rush to leave if flights resume suddenly and if the amnesty period ends without extensions. Opinions vary on whether the government will extend the amnesty, what penalties might apply for overstays, and the current availability of flights. Some users discuss the importance of staying informed, planning ahead, and considering flights if no governmental announcement is made by mid-July.

I know this is a Thailand group but those in vietnam had an extention until 30th June. Does anyone know what travellers in the same situation there are doing?

There are plenty of flights to leave Thailand. Most countries Embassy's have stated that you should return home ASAP. Thai Immigration clearly state what's in the image. If you are using the amnesty that means you have no visa and as such once boarders reopen you must leave within 7 days and apply for a new visa.

you would no doubt like to hear that. Yet another with the good fortune of a visa, but wishing the worst for anyone else who dares come to Thailand. I’ve just got a Ed Visa, so I’m starting my retirement early. Just need to bounce around on Ed Visa and METV’s for two years, and if I still have the desire to be here and it still looks a good deal, I’ll get the 5 yr Elite to take me through to the big 50, if that’s ok with you Barry ? 👍🙏😂

I would wait to something like mid July for government to clarify. My bet is they will extend the grace period. If not or no announcement, time to look for flights.

My feeling is that unless you have correct visa anyone after July 31st will be on overstay. Had plenty time to arrange transport home.

I think you are right. They have given people plenty of chance to either leave or sort out their visa to stay. I believe come 1st August there will be a lot of people staying on overstay and have to pay fines when they eventually leave.

agreed, maybe folks think the flights fly in full of Thai's getting home then fly back empty then again that wouldn't surprise me if they did think that

No one knows for sure. If gambling were not illegal in Thailand, I would suspect they will probably extend it, or if not, at least give at least some grace period.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand is talking about September for the resumption of flights. Thai had previously said no way they would fly "at least" until August, and that will probably be later now.

Now there have still been limited flights throughout this. But far from normal service and as you allude there would be a big rush. So my money would be on they probably will extend it out at least until there is some semblance of a normal flight situation.

It's possible they won't. Worst case, if they don't and you have to go on overstay, it's 500B/day and is capped at 20,000B. Presuming you surrender at the airport they won't ban you until you overstay for 90 days. So that's really the worst case, and I doubt it would come to that.

Yes technically, legally, they could say no and arrest and throw in prison everyone who isn't out of here on 1 August. But realistically that's not going to happen. It wouldn't happen in normal times, and they realise now is not normal.
