What are the common misconceptions about relationships with Thai women among expats in Thailand?

Mar 14, 2024
10 months ago
There's a lot of younger guys posting on here now that's good.

But some of these people have had a couple of weeks holiday Pattaya or the islands,

Then they come out with a load of crap,pulling thai lady's or people down ,if a person puts a genuine post on give a genuine answer, don't go trying to make a joke of it,ie sick family, sick Buffalo, go get ya mam to wipe ya arse ,you know who you are .

Thanks rant over,

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses frustrations among expats regarding the misconceptions and disrespectful comments made about Thai women, especially from younger men who visit Thailand for short periods. There is a call for more genuine and respectful discussions in expat communities. Various comments highlight how experiences in places like Pattaya can lead to generalized negative perceptions of Thai women, resulting in a stereotype that doesn't consider individual relationships. The exchange reflects a blend of cynicism and hope, emphasizing the need for mutual respect in discussions about cultural differences.

Maybe it's true. My advice to any visitor is give a dummy email upon departure.

I have been asked for money from many ladies (in 18 years I have been here),previously upon my departure to UK

"Thai lady's"

Do you think you're in Buckingham palace?

Age doesn't always denote wisdom. There's a balance between being too cynical & wearing rose colored glasses as both are misguided. There's good & bad, so just roll with it.

Spot on Good post.

Too many not telling the truth about sending money across etc or where they met their Thai lady i.e bar

Everyone saying online or they had business see not work in bar.

Course they did!

Some did

Some didn't

What has happened to this FB group. It used to be THE place to go and get accurate visa advice only. As soon as you got your answer the thread was shut down. Now it seems to have changed in the last week to just another load of crap incorrect garbage. What's happened to Tod Robert Ellie and the other terrific moderators?

The reality is that lot of these younger men have come to Thailand and experienced what they thought was love in places like Pattaya and Phuket without realizing where they were. The answers given aren't necessarily a slight to these kids if I may, they are just answers based on experience from men that have been alive and here long enough to see through the facade presented by their new Thai GF. They may seem harsh, but better to be forewarned and teased than broke at the end of 6 months of sending money to someone that might not even remember their name. Doesn't matter where you are, if you run up on the wrong woman you will suffer.

Blame the thais brother for this outlook for foreigners. They must look within to remove these stereotypes.

End of the day I can count more friends and people I have met that have had a bad experience with Thai women and the constant milking for money, sick family( grand ma is the common one) buffalo always gets them good also. Then I can count who have a successful long term relationship where they are not looked at as atms.

They do not come to our country and we do this to them. End of brother. Yes some are abit over the top and crude but it's just the vast reality of Thailand.
Ruth *******
@Jx *****
maybe if so many men didn’t come to Thailand thinking of women as property to buy, desperate women wouldn’t think of farang men as ATMs. Just a thought.
Jx ******
@Ruth ******
completely agree with you, but what makes them think this is how it is? Again we return to the stereotypes.
Ruth *******
@Jx *****
I'm not even denying that the stereotype reflects reality in some cases (I disagree that it's most as that's not the experience of those with whom I associate...perhaps it's the company you keep). I don't know what the percentage is. I think you're missing the point I'm making though.

If expat men think it's perfectly ok to take advantage of the desperation of Thai women (sexually) due to their financial circumstances, I see absolutely nothing wrong Thai women taking advantage of expat men for their desperation in finding "relationships". I will note that there are plenty of Thai women who are not in desperate circumstances. Those seem to be the relationships that flourish. When a man seeks a woman who will depend upon him for survival, they're kind of asking for trouble. 🤣🤣🤣 I have seen plenty of men who like this sense of power.

Tit for tat (double entendre intended)...that's all I have to say at this point.

in Australia 30% of first marriages fail. Of those that remarry 60% fail. Most men going to Thailand are either divorced at least once so there is probably a good chance that 60% or more will fail. That is not considering the cultural adjustment that many men can't make. I wouldn't be looking at the Thai woman as the primary cause of relationship failures.
Ruth *******
@Cliff *************
I would not either, but I’m referring to the whining.

Met my Thai wife in UK, she was loaded so didn’t need my money, nor do her family.

So, 1 child and 24 years of marriage later, she’s still loaded and I’ve been retired since I got to 46 (26 years ago) and She’s kept me in the lap of luxury for 25 years.

There are some Thais that don’t need Farang money and I’m lucky enough to have found one. 🤗

I'm finding most of the degenerates in my generation and older though. Maybe I just haven't met the awful younger ones, and I've met numerous young farangs.
