Why did my taxi fare and river cruise cost more than expected in Thailand?

River cruise cost around 800 baht with princess

Very common. When I met my girl, at the time, she led me around with her friend's. Next thing I know, I am paying for everyones meal and drinks.

I to had a little conversation with her afterwards. She said she didn't know they were going to do that. Which I don't believe. I didn't speak Thai so I don't know what was said between them.

I have been a guest of older people in the USA and they always pay. So maybe I am guilty of this. Could just be a misunderstanding.

A cruise up and down the River can be pretty cheap but maybe your girls didn't want to offend you with a cheap cruise.

Btw, the river is quite a ways from Sukumvit so travel by taxi down the center of town can be pricey. Did the taxi wait for you during the cruise?

In Vietnam, it’s worse. We got in a fake taxi from the airport. It looks 100% like a real taxi. It was super expensive and we were shocked. In Bangkok, there’s this guy pretending to be a tourist guide and got one of his tuktuk guy to take us to a boat ride. We didn’t go on the boat ride coz it felt like a scam coz he wanted to charge us and we read online that it’s a free ride?

On Friday we booked a taxi transfer with Traveloka from Pattaya to Suvarnabhumi Airport, it cost us 631 baht all inclusive.

Bangkok to pattaya or vice Versa is always 1000 baht per way. Seems like you don’t have a good taxi driver

Cheap lessons learned. Quite a few. First time here ? To post about it too 😂

1) Always fix a price for anything.

2) Don't let a taxi driver (or anyone else) persuade you to go anywhere you hadn't already planned yourself.

3) Google translate has a microphone option, to transcribe conversations in foreign language.

4) Always check pricing, even if it seems cheap.

I would have lost it ! I remember a taxi from airport once when the taxi guy went through a toll booth and then said “Hey boss you drink beer in car”? I said “Yes and I told you I would “! He then says “Toll booth have camera and now they will fine me 1000 baht because they take picture of beer in my car” so as soon as I get to my apartment downtown I said “When picture come bring to me and I will pay” lol …. Blank look on his face and I also stepped into him too , then I said “Too bad about your tip now for lying” sone guys are good but a lot are scammers.

What some of you are saying here is nuts 🥜!! No matter how the economies going, there’s a thing called integrity. By allowing someone to rip you off by a few baht or a little is justifying in their minds that it’s okay to do what’s being done to some. That’s as crazy as overpaying for rent just because you’re a foreigner who can afford to pay double and triple the rent or buying the same exact milk by shopping it at a western store like Villa Market instead of Tops. I see foreigners do this all day in 🇹🇭 😂 🤕 #Insanity!! That’s cray, cray! What about the people who come here on a budget because of the supposed lower prices compared to western countries although these days (since 1999 who could tell), there’s not a significant difference there— 😂 In the end, it’s about principle and not being okay with something just because we can afford it or how someone’s living. A tip should be at the discretion of the individual and not an implied addition just because you think you see 🤑 👀 The Walking DEAD ATM’s traipsing about Thailand🚶 😂 😆 😝 - 💪🏾

Taxi fares have increased considerably. Have booked from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Third Road, Pattaya in May. Four passengers so a luxury van instead of a car. My usual guy so not a rip off but it's 2,000 baht.

I payed 119 baht for an air-conditioned bus. Bangkok to pattaya

Couple of life lessons learned

I don't see what the problem is. And I live locally. The prices for everyone the girls and taxi to handle it all and only 2k. Decent. The assumption always that because the negotiation took place in Thai language doesn't not necessarily imply you are being taken for a ride. If in doubt ask and stay in charge of your destiny that way.

I have done the river trip a couple of times. My Thai wife takes me on the public boat not the tourst boat. Much cheaper.

600 baht, it is hardly a fleecing, call it a commission, you paid under $20 USD to not have to deal with the ticket booth, plus how ever far you diverted off course and the time he sat waiting. For, I assume four ppl (under $5 USD each), it really does not sound like he got you at all.

Life has been hard on people that depend on the tourist industry for a living. So if you can afford a vacation after these troubling times paying a little extra sometimes keeps the peace and helps them out…right or wrong…

You are in for a rough time friend. Best start thinking with the brain in your skull if you want to not become that guy who loses all his money and can't think why...

My sunset river cruise was 399 baht per person with an unlimited buffet. The taxi was 64 baht from China town Bangkok with Bolt.

Lesson learnt and those particular girls aren't the slightest bit trustworthy.

Those girls are probably the worst possible people you could be hanging out with. Even girls I barely knew on a first date would stop that happening a mile away.

It’s the same for those island hopping tours in Phuket and Krabi. It should only cost you 850-1000฿ but I’ve heard of people paying over 3000-4000 baht. And learned people accept the taxi driver telling them 300 baht to go 2 kilometres. lol it’s like most taxi drivers can only speak 4 English lines “hello” “thank you” “have a nice day” “300 baht”

Just get a bus next time is bout 150 baht from pattaya to Bangkok and they run very frequently.unless your in phuket. Most places in Thailand its better to use public transport.

You have to learn to haggle better. No matter what the price they offer act shocked say too much money and offer less

Use InDriver app and put in 10 baht then it will recommend the lowest price possible. You can probably get the ride for like 800 baht. It’s the best way to travel.
