Hi everyone…….My 90 day O visa runs out a couple days before my 2 months bank balance seasoning …….(I know poor planning)….what options do I have to extend my original O visa and achieve the 2 month benchmark for seasoning…. Or do I need a completely different approach?

Any help would be fantastic

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking for options to extend their Non-O visa that is set to expire shortly before their bank balance seasoning period of two months is completed. Responses suggest that if the visa is based on marriage or a Thai child, a 60-day 'visit family' extension might be available. However, if the visa is based on retirement requirements, there may be no in-country options to extend the visa until the funds are seasoned. One suggested approach is to visit the immigration office to inquire about the possibility of overstaying for a few days and paying fines, but caution is advised against overstaying for periods longer than a week.

If you show up the date your stamp expires ready to go forward with the year extension with all the paperwork and they see the seasoning isn't right on that day, are they more likely to just tell you to overstay? Or will they tell you to leave and start over?

Where as if you go early and talk to them are they more likely to tell you to leave and start over or overstay?

I don't have the answer to that 😕 , and will leave it to you to decide your course of action.

Okay it appears from reviewing a PM that
@Steve ****
sent me that he is referring to seasoning the funds based on banking 800K baht <- which means he's getting an extension based on retirement SO there is no in country option to buy time to get the funds seasoned the 2 months date to date that is required.

If it's a few days, (as in VERY few) you could go to your immigration office and see if they'll care if you go on overstay for those days and pay the 500baht a day fine for each day until the seasoning is to term. I wouldn't do it if it's more than a week though

that sounds like the best option rather than having to leave ….it’s 6 days in total…. Would they show some tolerance for that time???

@Steve ****
no they will not, and they'll fine you 500 baht a day for every day you run past that 90 day stamp from the Non-O. so for 6 days you're looking at 3000 baht in overstay fines.

Believe me you're far from the first person to have this happen. So it's something they have seen before

BUT

you need to GO to your immigration office with your bank book and passport and show them the dates so they can see you'll run on overstay and see how they will feel about it.

Not to belabor the point but this hole you're in now, you dug with your own shovel 😮

The immigration officer are under no obligation to 'work with you' (let you run on overstay until you can meet the seasoning) at all and can certainly tell you to get out and start the whole thing over 😕

I think they WILL let you do it but I sure wouldn't just think they will and show up ready to go forward with your year extension on overstay without them knowing ahead of time about it <- which is why I suggested you GO to the immigration office and see what can be done..

thanks Tod … that is sound advice … I truly appreciate your help with this and will certainly take your advice on board ….. ie … no expectations from immigration etc ….I will contact immigration in New Year to initially inform them about situation and see where I land ….my visa runs out in mid February…. Is it correct to inform them early rather than last minute?

@Steve ****
definitely go talk to them a few weeks before your current stamp runs out, SO that way if they won't play ball you can make arrangements for something else (border bounce, go get a new Non-O visa, etc)

thankyou…. Again… appreciate you and Stuart’s help

It depends on the reason for the Non O. If it’s based on marriage or a Thai child you could get the “visit family” extension for 60 days. If it’s based on being over 50 or other reasons then you don’t have an option other than to leave and enter exempt and convert from that.

it’s based on 50 years …. So it sounds like I will need to leave and then enter exempt…. Stuart could you explain what ‘entering exempt’ means? I am Australian

@Steve ****
Once you are back you apply for a non O based on being over 50. No seasoning of funds needed (except a few rouge offices may insist). When you have that and it’s winding down you apply for the year extension of stay. It’s at that point you need the funds in for two months. You have to keep them in for 3 months after and balance can’t go below 400k after that. It would need to be back to 800 two months prior to your next extension.

thankyou ….for your patience and support….that all makes perfect sense

@Steve ****
You leave and re enter with no visa. As an Australian you’d get a stamp for 45 days.

thanks … I thought it was that ….
@Tod ********
kindly offered some sound advice re talking with immigration re an overstay …..for me to leave…. Where would be the best option to go? Really thankful for your advice

@Steve ****
As
@T**
said if it’s just a few days overstay it might be worth chatting with your immigration office to see what’s the best way. Some are anal that you can’t get an extension off an overstay. Some may be lenient.

Other than that choose somewhere like Malaysia, Singapore, Laos or Cambodia to fly to and back (depends where you are in Thailand for the cheapest option). If you do a land border bounce choose Laos.
