Hey guys! So i tried to extend my marriage visa today. I have a wife and a kid. All the paperwork is legit,tho the 400 k is on the bank. Its been there for a month,it won't be able to sit there for 2 full months before my visa runs out. so because of that they told me i have to do everything from scratch, starting with leaving the country to get a non O. Is there any alternate way here?I heard there's a fee that could be paid to get a non O whitout leaving instantly? Just rumors? Or are there any agencies that could fix this? Any advice would be great. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary

They ask if it's possible to obtain a Non-O visa without leaving Thailand, or if there are any agencies that could assist them. No hassle very straight forward. Just one thing to mention. If you are swedish or norweigan you dont have to make a laos visa this year. Other than that, everything was spot on. Thank you so much for all the advices and information. You guys are the best. Cheers.

@Alexander ****
she has no idea what visa the consulate in Savannakhet sells or not, I think she was just more curious than anything else.
Alexander *****

Not a pleasant first impression tho. Like what's up with that? Did she just have a bad day?

Ok so I'm now in savanakhet. Had a little incident when I left Thailand. The lady officer asked me, you have marriage visa lo? I said yeah. She said you think you can get a new one? I said yea why not? She asked why I'm coming here to make it and I explained. She asked random questions and seemed very skeptical lol. I don't understand why. Told her I have all documents ready. Eventually she let me go.

Good Luck
@Alex*****

Alright thanks for clearing that up and all the advices/info. Very helpful group

The original marriage certificate doesn't get signed :/ The COPIES of it do :)
Tod *********
okay, you need the original marriage certificate (the one with the rose border) you need copies of

the front and back of the original marriage certificate

the front and back of your thai wife's i/d card

your thai wife's house book listing

your data page of your passport

the lao visa and entry stamp you get when you enter lao

2-passport sized photos and the filled out application

You sign everything with your name on it, your wife signs everything with her name on it, meaning you BOTH sign the copies of the marriage certificate.

Ok,thats interesting. So when i have to leave the country every 90 days,is a border bounce enough? For this visa none economical statements are required? Can you make that multiple entry non o visa into a real marriage visa later? Since i have to start over anyway? Hehe alot of questions
Tod *********
@Alex*****
you get 90 days when you enter on that visa, and then every 90 days you go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country (buying a visa for that country IF you need to) then stamp right back into thailand to get another 90 day stamp. you do that every 3 months for the whole year the visa is good for,
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
Ok so the year long one seems ok. Assuming only a quick border bounce would be enough to reset with?
Tod *********
IF you're just wanting to get the Non-O and start over so you can get a yearly extension at the immigration office only get a 90 day single entry one from the thai consulate.

Yes, you can apply for the yearly extension of stay on ANY of the 90 day entries you'd get off a year-long multi-entry Non-O visa.
Tod *********
@Alexander ****
, you could go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet and apply for either a 90 day single entry Non-O visa or a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage.

the year long visa would require you to exit/re-enter the country every 90 days.

If all you're wanting to do is "start over" so that your money can season the 2 months before you apply for the extension, just go to Savannakhet or Vientiane and get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa.

Like that one year long supporting half thai child thing?
Alexander *****

Ok so i went back today and they finally told me there was only one way of doing this. To leave the country and start over with a non O first. Now im interested in the savannahket option. How exactly does the visas you get from there work? Some clearification on savannahket options would be apreciated. Thanks.

@Tony ********
you can use a 60 day visit family once per entry.
Tony *********
The reason i ask is because you can enter on a visa exempt for 30 days use the wife visiting and get 60 days.

Saving you getting a SETV.

Can that be done once a year.
Tony *********
@Tod ********
how many times can you use the visiting wife and get 60 days.
Tony *********
@Alexander ****
did you use that in 2017 or 2018

How many times can you use it and how far apart would the time be .
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
I used my visit wife once last year already. Thats why
Tod *********
:(
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
No they would not give me that. She made it really clear. Go out and start over.
Tod *********
and so they wouldn't give you a 60 day visit thai family extension so that your money could season and you could apply for the yearly extension when that ran out?
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
I called 3 times now. Getting 3 different answers hehe. Now they said i can do that,so ill just have to go there again and see what happens.
David ************
The old it depends on which clerk you get ax to the answer you get. Good luck.
Tod *********
report back and let us know what happened if you can

Im using the korat immigration. I just called them about the extending into visit child visa. They told me that has to be done 45 days before my current visa expires?looks like i would have to leave to one if those consulates then?thanks for all the replies.
Tod *********
that is totally incorrect, :/
Tod *********
If you need to go get another Non-O there are three nearby Thai consulates in the area that issue Non-O's based on marriage with no proof of funds;

Savannakhet Lao

Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam

Seoul South Korea

I would go back and try for either the 60 day visit family extension or the year long supporting half-thai children extension.
Tod *********
@Steven **********
correct, only IF you were married when the child was born you were granted parental rights, BUT if you had the child out of wedlock you have NO parental rights and would need to go thru family court to get recognized as the legal father and granted parental rights. Then you could get a yearly extension based on supporting a half thai child without seasoning the 400K baht in the bank at all.
Steven ***********
Todd can you please clarify, with a Non O based on marriage, from what you say above it is possible to get a one year extension with no seasoned funds if you are supporting half Thai children?
James ********
HCMC Vietnam no proof of funds required
Tod *********
They could have done a couple things. IF you hadn't used the visit thai family 60 day extension since you entered thailand you could have gotten that OR you could have applied for a supporting half-thai children extension which doesn't require the money be seasoned in the bank any amount of time.

What immigration office are you using?
Sina *********
Why don't you try for non O visa based on child support
Tod *********
he has a Non-O visa already, they're trying to get the year extension

I got it all. So it's a little weird that they didn't suggest this to me. It was new officers this time. Maybe that had something to do with it.
Robert *******
If you have a marriage certificate it is possible to apply for this.
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
However I asked if there was any possible extension to do. But they said no. I know about the extension you're suggesting. You sure I qualify for that?i do have a kid and wife so it should be possible right? Have to check this up. Thanks again. Very helpful
Robert *******
Apply for the 60 days Extension to visit your wife, and if the money is in the bank for 2 months and you have 30 days left on your stay apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay.
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
It's runs out the 29th. The money would be ready at 15 Aug.
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
I'm now on a thai wife visa?the one year?
Robert *******
What kind of Visa do you have now?
Alexander *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
Does it matter if i used a visit family visa once before?or is that something I could do again?very interesting and good suggestion tho.thank you
Robert *******
You can apply before your visa runs out for the Extension of Stay to visit your wife and child for 60 days, this is without financial requirements. This Extension of Stay (60 days) will give you enough time to apply again for the 1 year Extension of Stay.
Mark ******
Try the royal thai embassy in ho chi minh. They are very responsive and helpful
Paul *********
So is the consulate in Savanaket but he’s asking about extending in Thailand.

There are agents that can help but that’s not allowed on this page. Search other groups or google.
Robert *******
No. The money must be in the bank for 2 months prior the application. Or if you can show an income of minimum 40.000 Thb a month verified by your Embassy if coming from abroad or tax documents from the last 3 months if from work inside Thailand.
Anton *****************
Thus my question on the income requirement, why would someone change if they already have a visa to work.
Robert *******
Only if you need the income proof of working in Thailand.
Anton *****************
But if you stop working then you would be screwed should you go extend again after a year, no?
Robert *******
The benefit on being on Extension of Stay or on a Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage that is does not stop when you stop working. On the other hand it stops when you keep on working but getting into divorce.
Anton *****************
Just curious about this income thing, if someone is working in Thailand legally, why would they change their visa to Non-O based on marriage? Would there be some benefit to it?
