TLDR : Answer Summary
A U.S. citizen on a single-entry Non-O visa wants to retire in Thailand but faces a timing issue with the required 800,000 baht being available in his bank account for only 45 days before his 90-day visa expires. The community response highlights that he cannot extend his current Non-O visa due to insufficient seasoning of funds. It is suggested he might apply for a 30-day visa exempt entry or a 60-day tourist visa, followed by a new 90-day Non-O visa application within Thailand to ensure compliance with financial requirements.

I'd say the best advice offered out is by
@St***
. Getting a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa and immediately applying for a NEW 90 day Non-O visa in country at their immigration office is the way to go (y) Sound advice

He could leave and apply for a SETV. When his 800,000bt is seasoned then apply for the non imm O in Thailand, after that he can then apply for the 1 year extention of stay. It would be very tight coming in visa exempt as he needs another 15 days seasoning plus a minimum of 15 days reamaining on his admitted untill stamp.

Look on the website for the US consulate. There’s a form you can download for a letter they will notarize to satisfy the income requirements.

The facts of his situation might not lend themselves perfectly to the form of the letter, if he is going to rely on funds in the bank and does not have ongoing income from United States. But the result will be equitable. And no one is going to investigate the facts.

there is no "proof of" when filing out the affidavit of income from abroad letter at the US consulate, or indeed most consulates. You can put down what ever you want on that paper as far as income and all the consulate is doing is notarizing your name is at the top and you signed it in front of them.

Now the immigration office could ask for proof to back up the consulate notary letter but I have only seen it happen a few times out of the many many of times I've seen it used.

unfortunately using the combination method won't work in this case because immigration offices will want the banked money to be seasoned the requisite amount of time.

. You can also have a combination of funds in the bank plus monthly income. As long as it equals the 800,000 baht. Example, you have 400k and show 33k monthly income is accepted. Although rules change all the time so yes, best to check with immigrations.

Also, renewing for Americans is easy if you can get to a US embassy or get to one of their outreach visits. You fill out a form with your income and they notarize it.

You do not have to have 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank. You just need to prove income of 65,000 Baht/month

These are the financial requirements: Applicant must be able to provide proof of a pension or other regular income from a source outside of Thailand;

Applicant’s pension or other regular income must be no less than the equivalent of 65,000 Baht per month;

Alternatively, the applicant may meet the financial requirement by maintaining a Thai bank account with a minimum amount of 800,000 Baht. (Applicants will need to show that they have 800,000 Baht in savings each year when they renew their visa.)

Any applicant married to a Thai citizen may be able to receive a visa on that basis rather than retirement.

Sorry, you can only extend the Non Immigrant O Visa for 1 year if you meet the requirements.
Robert *******
Non Immigrant O visa can only be extended with 60 days due to visit wife or family without financial requirement of 1 year with all of the requirements.
Robert *******
Only the Visa Exempt Entry and the Tourist Visa can be extended with 30 days.

@Robert ******
So a single entry Non-O visa cannot be extended for a further 30 days ??
Robert *******
No he can not if he does not meet the requirements. Requirements is 60 days, so 45 is not enough, so no extension of stay.
Richard *******
I think he is asking if he can extend his current visa long enough that his money has been in the bank for 60 days.
