What are the options for renewing a non-O visa in Thailand if I can't meet the bank deposit requirement?

I hope this is the right place to ask.

My wife and I have lived happily in Thailand for many years. My currennt non O visa expires early Nov.

Someone's let me down paying back a loan so I won't have enough in the bank yet for the 400k deposit needed to renew it.

We have collateral and my wife and I hope to recover the money within weeks, but still too late.

Is getting a 90 day visa from Laos an option? If so what type?

Can someone offer any advice at all?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeking advice on renewing their non-O visa in Thailand due to insufficient funds for the required bank deposit. Suggestions include obtaining a 90-day single entry non-O visa from the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, which does not require the 400,000 baht proof of funds. Users also discussed potential options for extensions or alternative visas that could facilitate longer stays until financial recovery.

Christ this turned into a train wreck πŸ™

These are your choice

y

1 - take a 60 day extension on the current stamp you have (get your money in the bank so it can be in there for 2 months) and get the year extension at your immigration office

2 - GO get a 90 day single entry Non-O, come in, get 90 days, (get your money in the bank so it can be there 2 months) and get the year extension..

3 - GO get a 90 day single entry Non-O, come in, get 90 days, take the 60 day visit family extension (get your money in the bank so it can be there 2 months) and get the year extension.

4 - GO get a year-long multi-entry Non-O visa, come in get 90 days, when that runs out exit/re-enter get a new 90 days, do this for the whole year giving you almost 15 months of stay (in 90 day increments) THEN apply for the year extension

I think that's every permutation that you can do

I'd say we're done AND if you want this thread re-opened message me (this is Tod) πŸ™‚

Or if you haven't applied for 60 days family visit (one time per visa only) extension and you are sure you can get the funds back as planned, maybe you can buy time to apply for your 1-year extension..
James ********
@Ellie ******
Does this add to the existing extension or is it deducted from the next? Or in other words, if this 60 day extension is obtained, does the next (one year) extension start new when the 60 days expires?
Ellie *******
@James *******
, 1-year extension will be started when you apply at the end of this 60-day visiting Thai Family extension. Some offices would "add" your 1-year extension to this 60 days, some start a new 1-year extension as of the application day.

Just for info ( I know all immigration offices differ) at Jomtiem I had to get a document from Sattahip amphur ΰΈ„ΰΈ™.2.

Signed and stamped, I think it says we are still married.

looks good. So that's 60 days persuasion time plus a further 90 days of even a year from Savannakhet..You guys are GREAT!

@Ellie ******
well spotted, that could buy him the time without even leaving or doing anything out of the country (y)

It is also possible to get a one year multi- entry non-O visa for 5000 baht. With this visa you would have to leave the country every 90 days. Depending on where you live that may mean a simple border bounce. Although valid for one year you can re- enter Thailand on the last day of validity and get stamped in for another 90 days. So, you could get an almost 15 month stay in Thailand. No financial information needs to be provided for this visa at Savannakhet. Apply one day and receive your visa on the next business day. It is, therefore, important to check for both Thai and Laos public holidays as the consulate will be closed for both. Application for this visa is very easy.

Stephen Brown i recently did this & found the whole process very easy πŸ™πŸ»

Thanks a lot for that very useful information. As Tod says, at the moment I was just looking for time to top up my deficient 400k. But I had no idea that there was a Visa of the type you mention. It might be a very useful plan B especially if I have a hard time getting my loan back. I actually live very close to Burma border.

I have this type of visa and (apart from when the border was closed) I have been using the consulate in Savannakhet since 2015.

@Stephen ******
Is it straightforward to get one?
Tod *********
@Stephen ******
he's just needing time to season the 400K baht so he can apply for another yearly extension (that's what he asked anyway) πŸ™‚ But you are correct
Stephen *******
@Tod ********
, the money loaned is yet to be recovered so there may be more to this than just seasoning time. Seasoning time would start when the loan is repaid and deposited.

@Stephen ******
That it. I might even have to legal action, God forbid. A one year Visa with no 400k requirement would give me all the time I need to settle this without losing a friend.

Sadly the reason you can't meet the proof of funds cuts no ice with the immigration office πŸ™

Your best bet is;

Go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao and get the 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage for 2000baht.

That will get you a 90 day stamp when you enter and hopefully you can have the 400K baht in the bank and seasoned the 2 months required when you have 30 days or less left on that stamp then apply for the year extension

This is a list of the requirements;

Thanks for that Tod.

The list of requirements you kindly provided didn't appear on my screen, maybe due to my settings. But the gist is I don't need the 400k for a 3 month non O Visa from Savannakhet and if I go just before the current visa expires that will give about 3 months to play with, right?. That's a relief. And thanks again.

Tom

@Thomas *****
And that 3 month visa can be extended with 2 months in Thailand. So you will have 5 months total.

@Thomas *****
GO to the thai consulate in Savannakhet click on Types of Visas and then the tab Non-Immigrant Visa 'O' (Visiting family member of a thai nationality, a spouse of Thai national).

You'll get a single entry 90 day Non-O visa and have time to get your ducks in a row finance wise..
