TLDR : Answer Summary
There is currently no specific 90-day tourist visa available. Visitors from the UK can obtain a 60-day tourist visa, which can be extended for an additional 30 days once in Thailand. Alternatively, travelers can enter Thailand on a visa-exempt basis for 60 days, with a possibility of a 30-day extension. For longer stays, especially for retirees, applying for a Non-O Visa may be advisable, as it allows for a 90-day stay without requiring subsequent extensions.

Just get your father to apply online for a Non-O retirement (over 50) Visa as he will then not require proof of onward travel at check in, gets stamped in for 90 days and does not need to visit Immigration at all during his stay. The UK cost is £60 then nothing more to pay (the online TDAC arrival card is free).
There never was a tourist visa you could buy that gave you 90 days when you stamped in 🙁
There is a single entry tourist visa that was VALID for 90 days <meaning you had that long to ENTER thailand and when you did you'd get stamped in for 60 days like everyone on a tourist visa does.
As people pointed out, if you want 90 days in country as a tourist you either come in free stamp for 60 days and take the 30 day extension OR you buy a single entry tourist visa from the consulate online before you come here BUT you'll still only get stamped in for 60 days and if you want 90 days total you'll have to take the 30 day extension.
Any way you slice it, if your father is comin' here as a tourist, those are his options. There's almost no upside at all to buying a tourist visa before he comes here because he gets stamped in the same amount of time as he would showing up without any visa and taking a free stamp entry; 60 days 🙂
In the uk I apply online at the Thai embassy for a 60 day tourist visa, then in Thailand 10 days before 60 day visa finishes I apply for a 30 day visa extension at the local immigration center about 1900 baht
its for me Dad he is 77 years old and wants to see his Grandchildren without hassle of doing 60 days then going get another 30 days , he got one couple of years ago but its not on website now
a tourist visa or visa exempt entry both get 60 days on arrival Plus one 30 days ADDED by going to your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.
The 90 day option for him would be a Non O Visa as a retiree. That gets a 90 day stamp on arrival.
Think you either want a visa so you apply for it in London (online) or you want to stay visa exempt for 90 days which you get stamped in for visa exempt for 60 days on arrival then extend at immigration for an extra 30 days visa free….or fly out and back and get another 60 days
