Silly question, probably asked a lot. I am a UK citizen wanting to visa Thailand for 90 days. I went to apply for a STV (i.e. 90 days) and its not listed anymore. So are they still available or do you just apply for a 60 day TR visa and then extend when you are there? Thanks so much in-advance....I have a Thai Bank account now and so long term plan on getting a Retirement visa, but wasn't planning too this visit...

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen looking to stay in Thailand for 90 days can no longer apply for the Special Tourist Visa (STV) as it was cancelled on September 30, 2022. Instead, they can apply for a single-entry Tourist Visa (TR) which allows for a 60-day stay upon arrival, and they can extend this by 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht. Alternatively, they may consider a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) which could allow a longer stay with border runs.

As the STV visa is no longer available...

Look at the METV multiple entry tourist visa. It may be available in your home country.

With planning it will give you up to 9 months stay in Thailand with a couple simple land border bounce entries.

Thank you, I will check

you're only wanting to stay here 90 days so a Single Entry Tourist visa is plenty at £30 versus £150 for the 6 month METV. So unless you're gonna be here to use a METV don't waste the time or money applying for it

Now on the other hand (as James pointed out) IF you're wanting to stay up to 9 months in 60 day increments the METV is a choice as the STV is discontinued

AND

the METV can be gotten online from the thai consulate in the UK by selecting tourism and leisure activities, then multiple entry

and IF you choose to apply for the METV multiple entry tourist visa, be sure you read the posts about it and important things to do as advised by Tod Daniels

STV <- special tourist visa was cancelled Sept 30th 2022, and that visa gave you 9 MONTHS in thailand in 90 day increments

You want 90 days in thailand you apply for a single entry tourist visa get stamped in for 60 days when you arrive and then apply for the one 30 day extension at the immigration office where you stay once you're here for 1900baht

Follow up question; I have a return flight already booked thats 88 days from arrival. So with a 60 day tourist visa what return date do I put? if I put the actual flight 3 months later will they reject my visa? So is it best to put a flight coming back on the 60th day?

@Neil *******
we applied for the 60 day from the uk, had no problem with our return flight being 84 days later

@Neil *******
put the date you're flying out, that consulate is good about letting you get the tourist visa with onward travel past the 60 days you'll get stamped in for.

If they won't accept it they'll email you and say so, BUT people have reported no issues with the thai consulate in the UK applying for a single entry tourist visa online with onward travel past 60 days (but not over the 90 days you get with the extension)
