Transferring visa to new passport.

Im on a 12month ext of stay based on my retirement visa. Is it just the current 12 month extension of stay visa that needs to be transferred, or the Non Immigrant O and all the previous ext of stays?

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
When transferring your visa to a new passport while holding a 12-month extension of stay based on a retirement visa in Thailand, it is essential to transfer only the relevant stamps. Immigration offices will transfer your current extension of stay stamp and any re-entry permits associated with it. Previous visas will not be transferred since they are considered invalid. You will need to present both your old and new passports at the immigration office that issued your extension for the transfer. This process usually occupies about two pages in your new passport.

Immigration will only transfer their own stamps. This means, they will transfer the existing "extension of stay" stamp and any re-entry permit you might have bought for it. . . . . . If you are about to re-enter Thailand, the "admitted until" stamp will go into the new passport, but you will have to show both passports and the "extension stamp" you are on, in order to get stamped in correctly until the expiry date of the existing extension. The visa itself was on a piece of paper, the visa you used before is already invalid. You are in Thailand on an "extended stay permit", not on a visa

my non immigrant o was issued inside Thailand and is a stamp in my passport not a piece of paper issued by a Thai embassy.

@Stephen *******
well, and you are already on the "1-year Extension of Stay based on Retirement", then this 90-days Non-Immigrant visa from Chiang Mai in your passport is already invalid. I do not think that Immigration in Pattaya is going to transfer the 90-days visa stamp to your new passport, they normally only transfer valid stamps, which would be the extension stamp

as it would be Retirement Extension Stamps to be transferred, some Thai Immigration Offices may request to see an updated bank book or fresh bank statement....

Always a good idea to do a small deposit or withdrawal and update the bank book on the way to Immigration

I think bangkok is the only office that requires that

I have not heard of it from other offices at all

Plus just completed my next 12 month application for visa extension and both passports required by immigration.

@Graeme ******
you don't need both passports if you moved the stamps BEFORE you applied for the extension with your new passport

@Graeme ******
yes I had to take both passports and relevant photocopies of both for the next extension as well

@John *********
that doesn't even make sense, that's exactly WHY people move their stamps to the new passport, the stamp transfer notes how you originally entered, how long you've been on extensions, your most recent entry to thailand and the current extension

@Tod ********
nevertheless that's what they wanted. The day they moved my stamps they stated that when I come for my extension they would want to see both passports and copies of all stamps in both. Just moving stamps was a long process as the new style UK passport went through additional checks to ensure it was legitimate, it took so long I went off for a long lunch and they still hadn't finished when I returned. Seemingly there was an issue with forged UK passports at the time, I don't know if that's still the case or not.

I only know of one person here that was asked for previous passports, and that was because he was an a/hole and they wanted to mess him about.
Tod *********
You take BOTH passports to the immigration office that issued your extension and they will move all the relevant stamps,

It takes about 2 pages in your new passport.

Once they do that you only need to use the new one for anything going forward

Thanks Tod. My current ext of stay was issued in Pattaya where I now live. My non o and 3 previous ext of stays were issued in chiang mai. Do you think Pattaya imm will transfer required visas to new passport or do I need to go to chiang mai also?
Tod *********
@Stephen *******
if your current extension is from the immigration office where you live (like you said it is) then you just go to the immigration office there to move the stamps, No need to go back to where ever you started the Non-O first extension process

@Tod ********
immigration sometimes charge 300thb. Or so
Tod *********
@Colin *********
that is immigration office specific and with over 80 offices in the country there's no telling what your office does
Colin **********
@Tod ********
indeed, thats why i said "sometimes" I've seen posts where it says free and some with a charge

@Colin *********
At Chaengwattana it is definitely free, BUT if you're moving stamps and you have an extension based on retirement, you need to update your bank book and give them a copy to get the stamps moved ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
